Deceptive Notices From Mtn
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:20 PM »

The attention of the Communications Commissions, NCC, has been drawn to deceptive public notices in the media, and text messages sent by MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd to its subscribers, alluding to an offer of free N175 airtime on June 7, 2008. In the print media advertisement, MTN captioned the message thus:
''MTN excites subscribers with free airtime''

A similar message to MTN subscribers read:

''You will receive free N175 airtime on 7th June. This is MTN's way of showing you appreciation for your support and loyalty. Do enjoy it at your leisure. Thank you.''

The message above, and the public notices in the media wrongly suggests that the payment is a favour to MTN subscribers. This is contrary to the fact that the payment is in fulfillment of a directive of the Commission compelling the operator to pay compensation to the subscribers for poor quality of service.

For the avoidance of doubts, the amount of N175 airtime being credited to MTN subscribers represents compensation to each active subscriber on the MTN network as at 31st January, 2008, and not a favour. The compensation is as a result of the failure of MTN to meet Key Performance Indicators for Quality of Service as published by the Commission.

The crediting is done in batches.

When would our authority ask NEPA and Waterboard to compensate us for their exploitations and failure. Just wondering?

Dont expect any compensation from glo cause they pass the test that MTN and Celtel fails.
