Sagging Pants: Fashion Statement Amongst Black Youths?
« on: June 25, 2008, 02:13 AM »

Some black men, choose to wear their trousers (or as they call it in yankee, pants), just slightly below their buttocks, thus exposing their underpants, or worse, . . . Now laws have been enacted in some cities penalizing these 'fashion trend'. An outcry has been raised by some blacks, and other civil organizations. So, do you support the law on indecency, or should people be allowed to rock their own fashion that they deem right. I tend to see it as glamorizing irresponsibility and trying to reinforce thuggishism in someone's life.

Why, are you singling out black kids? Don't you know that such trend is now an all around youthful one. I don't know about out west but our here in the east coast white and especially hispanic kids sag their pants every bit equal as blacks out here. So how has this become a targeted issue with you?

Well, there is now a law in certain cities in the USA that is penalizing folks who have choosen this 'fashion trend'. And yeah, it reeks of immaturity. C'mon, how can you condone boys wearing sagging pants and baring their undies to the whole world?

I'm not condoning anything, all I'm simply saying is that you should not single out a particular goup of youths, black males in this case, while making your point of how you disapprove of it.

I have never seen any responsible professional wearing his pants that way.
Everytime I have seen such a person, I just know immediately that I'm looking at an imbecilic moron.
However, what's the point in outlawing any kind of fashion? methinks it's a daft idea to make laws to tell people what to wear. is that a democratic ideal?

Wearing sagging pants do not depend on ya color. I see white, asian, Hispanics, Blacks all wearing sagging pants.

It depends on the music you listen too and your style.

The sagging pants trend, probably originated from the black community. It's only now that it's been adopted by people from other races.

Of course it was established first in the African-American community and then spread across the world. This seems to be the rather natural order of things. Whatever we do becomes golden. Our cultural trends, good and bad, are addictive to the world for some reason.

dang, replying to the loser up there made me to forget about replying to this post.

to answer to the poster, even though sagging pants is not all that favorable among others, i think it is stupid to penalize someone for wearing their pants a certain way. I know in VA they were trying to fine people $50 for sagging pants. i'm like :are u serious?

why target the black youths?  Huh
yeah saggy pants are generally worn by ghetto/ hood kids. but i'm sure whatever their next "fashion trend" is, it will be criticized just because it is associated with black youth. anything associated with them will generally be criticized.

I personally find it disturbing when i see those sagging pants with the underwear showing. sometimes, even the underwear is sagging  Huh. I don't want to see your yansh  Undecided

but the sagging pants has a history. when parents were too poor to afford clothes for their children (these black families were of course living in poverty), they gave the kids "baggy pants" or trousers that were too large. So that as the kids got older, they would be able to fit in it and not have to worry about getting more clothes for them.

I know my parents bought over sized shoes for me during my puberty. It never turned into a trend. lol. but anyways. . .

you can't force people to dress according to your standards. it's their lives. freedom of choice
and about professionalism, I don't think anyone in their right senses would wear suits and tie everyday to play, eat and sleep. you can't dress professionally 24/7

It's because alot of them don't wear belts all in the name of trying to copy prisoners

What they don't know is prisoners are NOT ALLOWED to wear belts in jail in fear that they might commit suicide with them

In other words black youths are daft and copy all the stupid stuff. The other races that copy them are usually wiggers.

Once you bemome an adult I don't think you should be told how to dress -That should be a freedom of expression. HOWEVER, I think placing a ban on saggin pants should be limited to the school system. This trend is mostly worn by the school aged youth. We should train them how to dress respectfully, just like we teach them manners, and mathematics.

Once they become adults if they want to dress like fools, that's on them. By then they will see that that type of attire won't be tolerated in the workplace.

Has anybody ever noticed the difference between the fashion style at a BET awards show and the Oscars? The difference is clear. While the former displays fashion riot, the latter showcases class in fashion for the most part. Blacks can do better than this than wearing off the color riots at an awards show like BET. It portrays us in a negative light.
