Hmm, interesting. I went through previous pages and some people here were posting crap.

Anywayz, @topic, I believe it's a fashion thing, definitely not a culture because it's not looked upon as a normal thing or accepted in most places in America although if someone living in another country sees this dressing being portrayed in rap music videos, one would think 'oh, it's normal to sag pants in America'. False! I see the ugly looks people who dress like that get, and not just at school.
It has happened at a public place where this dude walked in with his boxers all out; everyone looked at him like he was stupid. Even at school, which is made up of blacks and hispanics who it's in their *culture* to sag pants according to some people here, it's still looked upon as indecent.
Well, I personally don't like seeing boys' underpants, wtf!, and my girls don't either.
Oh, as for those saying it came about because prisoners weren't allowed to wear belts, I don't know about that because people wear belts but still sag. There's nothing wrong with wearing baggy because it's not cute either for a guy to wear a really tight-fitting pant like a woman but when the underpants is exposed, that's it! There's no other word other than indecent for that type of dressing. Period!

That's the whole point. The belt is just to show off the buckle but it isnt really used. It's all about trying to copy the dressing of prisoners. Of all people to copy. Oy Vey.

Guys shoulnt wear baggy. NOT wearing baggy clothes doesnt mena you wear clothes that are too tight. I believe there's a thing where people can actually wear THEIR SIZE.

Same way I'D talk shit about girls who wear clothes that are 2 times smaller than their size

HISPANIC GIRLS AND OBESE BLACK WOMEN ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME.  Grin

Fashion, chiogo, people's way of dressing is also considered a part of their culture.

Ok, I get your point. When I said 'baggy', I meant loose-fitting. Pants are either tight-fitting or loose-fitting. Women mostly wear the tight-fitting ones. What dudes might consider *not baggy* is usually baggy when worn by a female.

@CH3COO, I don't get ur point.

I don't know why you don't get my point.  You can read, right?

You said " I believe it's a fashion thing, definitely not a culture " - just thought it was contradictory and wanted to provide a rebuttal to that.

In the yoruba culture, wearing a tie has a meaning.

Young people tie their gele in the front, I think because it means the future is theirs.
The Adults tie their gele in the middle, I'm not sure why (but it has a meaning)
The old people tie their gele in the back.

Now that I want to know is why AA wear their pants to their
Knees:
ankles:

Can someone plz explain it to me. It seems like the fashion is so rampant, it must mean something.

It shows that you're down for the hood.  The hood is a territorial achievement for the black american man.   Tongue lots of innocent lives have been lost and their bloods shed all to defend the turf.  wearing your trousers and jeans around your waist is a statement of disloyalty to the black community.  Shows that you are an oreo and are not down for the cause.  That you support the white man and are not your brother's keeper.

Angry Grin  LMAO I can't believe I typed all of that with a straight face.

the whole loose fitting pants thing is just apart of american culture oka. just as apple pie and fire works. People think that only black or hispanics dress this but it is everyone. i have seen asian/white/black/middle eastern/african you name it they are wearing it. But that is just what they want to wear. i don't judge people for their clothing because i don't want anybody judging me. because I'm not your average dressed person. I'm one of those people who experiment with their clothing. one day i might look retro, the other a catholic school girl who cares. it is all about choice.these people choose to dress like this because they like it. same as ladies chose to wear them mini skirts. because we like them and besides it is usually a phase. once they start getting jobs and what have you, they straighten up. look at Jay Z. yall saw how he used to dress and look at him now. so instead of judging, let them be. yal were kids once, and remember all the styles that were in for your generation??

My uncle was telling me, yest.,  about "Drive By Shootings" gang in NY. I think that's what CH3COO's talking about.

Is "how low your pant can go" the requirement you need to get into  that gang? I mean, isn't it hard for those people to walk like they got sh*t stacked up their ynash?

Onyinye did you read the intial post.  The OP expressed it loud and clear.
Of all things black people could be proud of to contribute to "american culture", this exposing your butt crack and showing your privates in public is not one of them.  don't use "youngness" as an excuse to justify people's decisions to live in destruction.

Oyinye,
Law of Characteristics of a person:

*What you say

*The way you act

*What people say about you.

I'm guessing the way people dress and carry themselves is under that law, don't you think?

The point is, it is no excuse for justifying nefarious behaviorism.  Would you kill your mother because a "white man does it too"? That's a contemptible reason to participate in abuse.  The white people you compare yourself to have done more to participate in a cycle of maintaining a healthy environment that's prosperous for everyone.

You've seen the prepiest boy sag their their pants. abi?

Those boys are confused. Well groomed boys  don't  show off their briefs to people who really don't want to see it.

Please, when you meet another preppy boy, ask him if that's the "Good manners" he learned at home.
If he says yes, tell him he learned wrong.

i see this is a no win situation. you have your views and i have mine. we both grew up in different backgrounds so of course we are going to view this differently. you just do you and such but as for me I'm going to continue to allow people to express themselves as they want. and maybe one day show karmamod  that maybe a kid dresses one way don't mean he can't be capable of becoming something great. also karmamod, MY boots were made for walking and thats what they are going to do, and one of these days these boots are going to WALK ALL OVER YOU.

It's not even about winning or losing.  If you're so concerned about knowing who won, the white men won this rat-race a long time ago.  Black people are still fighting to get it back.  We shall not quarrel or begin a cat and mouse argument over whose opinion is superior; however, I will encourage you to understand that one's living environment is no excuse to condone sheepish ideas.  Sagging pants is a prison trend that wasn't intended for the purpose of fashion.  Even freedom to express has its limits - what type of freedom is a grown ass man expressing by sagging his pants.  Makes him look inappropriate, irresponsible, feminine, dull, pathetic, dirty, you name it.  Why bother putting the darn pants on if your plan is to let it slide all the way back down. What is being expressed here that cannot be expressed in a more appropriate manner?   Kids or adults don't need to see these obscene displays while walking down their streets.

one of the preferred forms of entertainment among black youths in the hood - is 'running a train' ie gang rape. the sagging jeans must serve to facilitate this - no need to bother with fumbling with your belt , or opening your fly, just open the hole in the boxers.

who says the hood can't teach efficency? (thats a more efficient method of propagating crime).

thats probably why they breed like rabbits. even if it wasn't about coercive sexual intercourse, you aren't likely to remembe to wear a condom when all you need to do is whip out your -

tattos actually existed in african and polynesian culture a long time ago. sagging pants is a form of self-expression which doesn't bother me, won't do it though.
