Analysts say the idea behind the buy is to thwart Google (Android) and Apple (iPhone OS). Really? But Apple really has no care for Symbian since the iPhone OS is only meant for the iPhone, and this may actually be advantageous to Google since now control of Symbian has passed to Nokia (meaning other phone companies can be shackled by Nokia).
