Italy have parted company with coach Roberto Donadoni after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) opted not to extend his contract.
Donadoni, 44, signed a new contract extension prior to Euro 2008 but one of the conditions of the deal was for the world champions to reach the last four.
Italy lost to Spain in the last eight and the FIGC used the get-out clause.
According to media reports, the FIGC is expected to announce the return of 2006 World Cup-winning coach Marcelo Lippi.

I don't understand why Lippi broke the cardinal rule by taking back the job. That's really weird! He left that job on a high note - winning the world cup and should have left it that way.
He'D now be under too much pressure to deliver and I doubt that he can pull it off again. The Italian team were the oldest in Euro 2008 and are definitely past their prime. Lippi now has the unenviable task of re-building the team from scratch. He has to build a younger, hungrier squad to carry them to SA 2010.

It will be hard for Lippi to get to that level again. But without a doubt he;s one of the best coaches in the world today so i guess he will have problems getting the team in order.
what team members are really past their prime exactly Razorr??
I fell they were just unlucky. As one analyst pointed out Sapin could have played non stop for 2 days and they still wouldnt have scored from open play in the qtr final. The problem was that they failed upfront by isolating Toni.
Nuff said on that tho . Wishin Donadoni all the best. But Lippi will succeed. Mark my words.

I knew this was going to happen Italy's form was jsut like Les Bleus's own i wonder if they would have sacked him, if he had gone all the way to the final Lippi should not have taken the job This time he will surely fail I am eagerly waiting for Domenech's own
