"Man is born in ignorance of everything around him; and his ignorance of natural causes begat
terror; terror, superstition; superstition, priests and priesthood; whose interests and unbending efforts are
exerted to perpetuate the ignorance, the fear and the superstition that gave them birth";

Man is born in ignorance of his environment; his ignorance of all the factors that determine events begats terror;  Terror, an attempt to grasp the factors in order to make prognosis; prognosis, theories of religion and naturalism; Theories and doctrines, priests and priesthood of both religious orders and scientific naturalism orders;  Their  interests and unbending efforts are often exerted to maintain such a status quo that has them as leaders of groups and communities, even to the extent of perpetuating the fear and superstition that gave them birth.

This feels a lot better don't you think.
