If you made a topic about the US, I am wiling to bet you wont find people screaming on her behalf because frankly we don't care.

Too many UK fiends around here however. They actually take criticism, constructive or not against the UK so much to heart, you'D think you were bahsing their family

Btw $8/hr stretches more than 6 pounds/hr
where are you getting the Idea that $8/h streatches more than £6/hr or am I getting you wrong? or have you 4gotten £6/hr means  $11 plus/hr? basic Uk gov jobs which is Level 2 =£1150 onwards thats the lowest of lowest

I don't believe you! how exactly do you know what most Londoners do when they go on HOLIDAY, people usually spend more than necessary when they are on holidays anyway, you don't exactly gather everyone around and tell them you are a student doing part-time work do you?
what dyu mean by that?i know cause i visit nigeria as well and witness it especially during christmas,well then if you over spend on your holidays then good for you and whats a student doing part time work got to do with anything??
Quote from: Dis Guy on July 06, 2008, 10:28 PM
I know of illegal/legal immigrants working their butt off, living in shared flats here who own houses in nigeria sending their kids to private universities, are they also showing off?
so if you do,does it erase the fact that some don't invest their money wisely and over stretch themselves?i honestly don't get what you r on about dude
Quote from: Dis Guy on July 06, 2008, 10:28 PM

I understand some people do scams run to nigeria to blow their money but they are also thousands working legitimately, saving for their HOLIDAY in nigeria, its good for the economy right?

yes and so do i,i never said hard working nigerians in london are devils or what not,i said the ones that save for a year and blow it all in a couple of weeks just to show he s arrived and a big boy whaever is firstly giving a false impression of uk and also not being sensible,you know some that are hardworking and sensible with their money,i know others that are not sensible with their spending even though they work hard so whats the problem here

well I don't like UK and I can't live there.

Last time, the train broke down in tunnel between Liverpool and mile-end.

It was hot, 99 standing 45 sitting. It was a hell. I remembered Molue and I said atleast that drives on the surface.

I went to see some friends in Dangeham, the rooms were damn too small, the house not better than Isale Eko.

One thing that could be done is for our 'press/people' also show the terrible side and people we run away.

The roads in Malaysia is better than roads in UK.
mayB if the earn better Money they could have afforded themselves a bigger house abi? you sew your coat according to your size abi? at least you see plenty black people here who are Doctors Lawyers,Engineers, Police officers these includes Nigerians you know, Now you tell me where else in Europe do you know more than 3 Police officers  who are Nigerians, I beg tell me

what is a council tax?

Re: This Uk Sef
« #43 on: July 07, 2008, 08:35 PM »

@SeanT21

Council tax is a payment you make to the local council in which you are resident in 11 monthly instalments every year.

It is used to take care of things like security, rubbish collection, libraries, community centres etc etc. The amount is determined by the band your 'accomodation' falls into.

Failure to pay or underpaying could result in you taken to court and then banged up in jail.

You are exempt if you are a student or in prison.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

@Disguy, You funny oh!

Anyway, nobody has mentioned TV licence of £139.5 Per annum Grin Grin. That's how BBC TV is funded and we are able to watch their TV programmes. TV licence evasion leads you to jail!

Its a pity man! Imagine 500 quid out of your salary every month!

Life here in the UK is different strokes for different folks. Lots of Nigerians are doing fine and others are managing to survive. As the saying goes, you cut your coat according to your cloth, abi na size? Overall, it is expensive but peaceful (though not for Teens with all the stabbings). The higher you earn, the more you get taxed.

Its okay for me here and am enjoying it. At least I see where my tax goes, can plan my life and come home to electricity! Can you use Microsoft money to budget and plan your finances in Naija? no way!  Grin Grin Grin Once you step out of home in Lagos, its difficult to estimate how much you will spend during that day Cheesy Cheesy

With the Free movement across Europe, many Nigerians in other European countries have moved to the UK. They feel more at home here than in Germany, Austria or Italy, e.t.c. Have met a few and know some.

You don't get refunds from the council tax you pay. It is your contribution to the runninng of your immediate local council.

You get credits on the tax you taken from your salary. I think what you can get back is dependent on your immigration status as well.
