I think the poster meant £11,150.

How did I forget about the TV licence?

And come to think of it, evasion of any payment lands you in court and/ or jail and ruins your credit file.

How about deposit on rented property?

I had to shell out £749 as deposit last October for my place. I can't stop thinking about the 'interest' Grin Grin Grin that  amount would generate if it was sitting my savings account.  urgghhhhhhhhhh!

No I meant £1,150 per month abi I lie?

It would seem like u're resident in the US.Kindly explain the taxation process ova there

Quote from: erico2k2 on July 08, 2008, 11:27 AM
Hi there, Have you ever collected tax return in the US personally? here in the UK, you can only do that when you own your own Biz, or have been overcharged in tax etc, So if our system is diffrent from yours in the states, please tell us how it works, Cool

I will Try.

My mother collected tax return. It was $1000. It depends on how much money U make and how much kids or dependents U have. Some People in the US usually fake having many kids to get a higher tax returns.

The Rich are Tax way more than the average. Bill Gates pays more money in Taxes than the average John.

Taxes in America includes:

Income Tax- tax withheld from your salary

Payroll Tax- generally refers to two kinds of taxes: Taxes which employers are required to withhold from employee's pay, also known as withholding, Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) tax; and taxes which are paid from the employer's own funds and which are directly related to employing a worker, which may be either fixed charges or proportionally linked to an employee's pay.

LVT or Land Value Taxation- is a tax that charges landholders a portion of the unimproved value of a site or parcel of land.

Sales Tax- is a consumption tax charged at the point of purchase for certain goods and services.
Ex, If You buy a 50 cent candy in my state, the price will probably come up to 57 cent. Sales Tax varies by state.

Value added tax (VAT), or goods and services tax (GST),
is tax on exchanges. It is levied on the added value that results from each exchange. It differs from a sales tax because a sales tax is levied on the total value of the exchange.

A flat tax (short for flat rate tax) is a tax system with a constant rate. Usually this would refer to household income, and possibly corporate profits as well, being taxed at one marginal rate.

If i made a mistake, feel free to add or change.

All these tax you just mentioned are same here in the Uk just called something diffrent, your mum collected what we call Working family Tax credit, these are relative to the amount you earn and howmany kids you have, if you earn too much you can't claim that, you outgrown the catigory
These Tax are totally diffrent from Tax return OK! you can Only Claim Tax return if you have been over charged Tax if you work and get paid salary or you provide proof of expenditure for you  Biz,Ie transport cost some bills to the tax office and you taxation is re-worked, then you can get refunds in all that OK!

One of the major problems with Nigerians scrambling to go abroad is because of the situation back home and as far as it remains the way it is, Nigerians will still be emigrating and as some have stated here, some people also go back home living a false life giving those there the impression that the UK is a bed of roses where money comes easily. Even if you tell the average Nigerian back there the situation in the UK, believe me he wont listen to you and he probably will hate you labeling you an enemy to his progress or that you don't like him to be successful like you are.  Some of us probably must have felt this way at one point too after being told same thing (life in the UK) by either our UK based relation or friends before leaving the country too except of course if you were born in the UK. The answer lies in how well we're able to make our own country a comfortable place for us to live.

Mr preacherman, loosen up a bit. Tongue Rules are meant to be broken, hence the invention of punishment. You can't expect all posters kids to toe the line and behave the same way. Not all of us have to be the model child who always comes first in class, excels in sports, speaks 10 different languages, plays 7 musical instruments . . . yawns

Leave Daddy S and his errant posters kids alone, he is fine and he is doing a very good job, or else Angry

Owo iya charly correct well well.

Me i dey wonder why people dey shout tax this tax that etc. If you use your mind well, those things wont bother you.

While i was studying in UK, i discovered i could make some correct bucks by just buying jewellery online from US, and resell to high street shops in UK. My profit was always x2 that is after shipping, clearance etc. So just cause everyone is doing 5pound20job does not mean you have to join them.

That is what I call creativity and good business acumen.hmmmmmn can you transfer customers to me Grin Grin Grin

While it's a very laudable enterpreneurship idea, do ensure you could not be held liable for violating the terms of your student visa by engaging in a business especially if such online purchases and reselling reflects in your bank statement. Regards
