The Management of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has announced a 12-hourly zonal power rotational rationing from 6am – 6pm and 6pm – 6am nationwide. A statement by the PHCN yesterday in Abuja said that the new power rotation, which begins on Friday, was as a result of “the serious electricity power crisis across the country”. “This is to ensure even distribution of the limited generation out-put from functioning plants,” the statement said. “The issue of inadequate gas supply to the thermal power stations, Egbin, Omotosho, Geregu, Delta and Sapele is yet to be resolved,” the statement said. It noted that low water levels at the lakes of the Hydro Power stations, which account for 25 per cent of the nation’s generation out-put has compounded the instability in the power system leading to the prevailing nationwide load shedding. The statement said that the low level was brought about by the increased draw down of water during dry season to augment shortfall in the thermal units. The PHCN therefore, appealed to “our esteem customers, other stakeholders, especially the mass media for understanding and co-operation as PHCN is doing everything possible to ensure improvement in power supply”.

Interesting development, so how is 900mW going to be shared among the whole country exactly because it still isn't explained? Even if it is turn by turn 900mW still isn't enough for 12 hour periods as suggested. This is basically trying to share one orange among a whole village, so basically one one lick each should do the trick. Well, they are managing what they have. Hey, if people are going to be informed as to when their side is getting their five minutes of "normality" then at least they can plan in advance how to use their five minutes. So maybe you can proceed with watching an extra five minutes of that film that has been in your dvd player forever or maybe just basically experiencing what living with electricity without noise feels like. Take heart, you will finish watching that film one day.

One would think we previously had 24 hour electricity but power now has to be rationed with this load shedding due to some unexpected development. People should expect power for 5 mins every 12 hours every other week, because I knew people didn't have any electricity before now, but at least 5mins/12hours/2weeks is now guaranteed

@debosky, hey at least it is better than nothing. You never know, the different parts of Nigeria might even assign the days there 5 minutes is on as public holiday. People will cook rice and kill chicken to celebrate the ocassion, if NEPA forgets to change for 5 minutes, people will kill goat. 20 minutes? You want to kill people with such obscene levels of ecstasy? That one is cow plus party.

20 whole minutes people will protest and carry placards to the NEPA office saying 'OFF THE LIGHT NOW!!' in their thousands; they may even resort to begging if it goes further

some parts of the country should prepare to be in permanent darkness in the nights while some will enjoy constant light in the night. Universities and other lower schools in such areas where there will be light in the night should operate night school so that they will be able to do experiments. even all workers should sleep during the day and work at night.

@iseobio why are you even complaining sef, at least doctors can schedule operations on their five minute days in confidence that for that amount of time NEPA won't take light. If you need operation during the day wey your turn never reach or the thing wey you wan do pass 5 minutes, that one na your wahala. So people who want to fall sick for no reason thereby needing operation, hold it, and pregnant ladies that might need c-section if you are not willing to push you better respect yourself and hold that baby till that 5 minutes or more reaches your area.

Then the different zones should change their times to match. otherwise a doctor will be sleeping when he/she is upposed to be at work.
