I'm flummoxed! Whats going on??? Huh

This makes you a bookie. The average joe would say "I am contemplating a conundrum similar to reviving schroedinger's cat".

Believe me, growing up in some places make you discover that your greatest asset is your brain

Being streetsmart comes from having a brain box of experience, yours and various people's past events
Tell me how many ex-Lagosians can fall for scam?

Then that's not the average bookworm
Most of them know just what they need to know bout one thing
Try asking a nigerian Professor about something outside his field

C'mon, lawyers are trained to be streetsmart
That is their profession, to escape from any situation
If not that, then what's being streetsmart all about?

Any lawyer will argue two sides of a case and convince you
They don't get that only from the classrooms, they get that from their internships and countless other ways

Then those ones, ma'am are just DAFT.

I'm Nigerian, I've seen people lie without flinching, I've seen all that over and over again
How will someone now come and tell me to bring my money for one big business deal?
Come on!!!

@topic

i choose a mixture of both. You have to book smart around me. I'm always trying to educate myself with new things so i want someone who can relate to that. And when i don't understand something, he is intelligent enough to break it down for me. You also have to have street smart. it is just one of those things you should opt to learn. a guy needs to now he way around to know if someone is tricking or is real. having street smarts can really help especially if you live in a place like the states where scams are coming full force.

LOL Grin Grin

C'mon, stop trying to trap me Cheesy

I only said we can't use a lawyer as a case study, just like we can't use a 'street-daft' person that grew up in Ajegunle as an example
Lawyers have to be streetsmart

Most people have a bit of both in them
In this case we're talking about the average individuals in each of the extremes

A Science Prof OR a Roman Abrahimovich

And please see what sumone said on the KARMA thread and tell me you agree with her Grin Grin

book smart because that encompasses high element of common sense/reasoning which can then apply to street smart.

why do one have to be street smart anyway when it's not as if the society we live (definitely not nigeria) in requires street smartness

C'mon, whatchu sayin?
Then why's there need for interviews and things like that?
Why don't we just pick the person with the highest number of degrees or select by the University League ranking?

The world is looking for people that can apply ideas to different situations as quick as possible
When you have that, they'll teach you the 'book' part of it

Wonder why the Abrahimovichs and MKOs excelled in their trades?
They had to apply street brains into all situations

You want booksmart, I'll go to the Ivy League and bring them in thousands
Streetsmart is hard to find

agreed but what is your definition of street smartness.
what happens if dubious acts/fraud/scams gets eradicated (i know it's a long short)?
i don't have to be street smart to understand and appreciate common sense you know.

the only reason why i wouldn't fall fow to scams like lottery, yahooze, unclaimed million dollars et al is because i ain't greedy and i know 4 sure common sense tells me that if a fellow man discovers hidden millions then i wouldn't be the first person they'D taken out of a hat.

@jay bee

my definition of being street smart is one's ability to have that cunning or shrewdness NEEDED to live in, or to deal with people in an urban environment, business deals/clients, etc. any one can have common sense but street smarts is a whole different category. being street smart is almost like one's ability to stay one step ahead.

Make that word in bold be 'STAND OUT'

Mr Booksmart: I'm good at my job
Mr Streetsmart: How can I make the best ot of this stupid job

Mr Booksmart: I can't take this risk, it might be fraudulent
Mr Streetsmart: I'll go and ask other topheads if this opprtunity is not a farce

Infact I heard of a driver that made millions from the info he gained from the stockbrockers he used to drive arond

entered was primary school and the secondary school he picks/drops
his sister with his Range Rover.

This brother will not go father than this until he picks up Books.

Bill gates was Street + Book.

Bamidele is a master degree holder and works as a lecturer while trying to earn his
Phd. he has written lots of papers in his field of research, he has attended enough conferences
both in Africa and the West.
he has made a lot of money off this and currently lives in VGC.

You're missing the point of the whole argument here
We all know that street plus book is the perfect blend
The poster's asking that if we had to choose ONE

And after seeing examples like JayZ, Abrahimovich, MKO Abiola, ad infinitum
I'll say I'll go with Streetsmart
