yea rite! rili @ dis stage, i don't fink any1 has to be asking any 'how to get started' question.

I first heard about SAP two years ago and I had being making efforts to start up not until recently (few months ago) dt I was able to get my hands on my personal SAP system dt I treat like a baby.

I am one of the first set of people to start this thread but then I had not heard any idea of the pathway to get started. I kept abreast with this thread alongside external parties. Wot I am trying to pass across now is dt even wiv d fact dt am started on SAP, I still go thru the thread 4rm page 1 once in a while, to refresh my memory on things dt were not rili clear to me then and I hv a better picture.

U guyz shd just go thru dis thread and READ!!! and pray to fall to the fortunate hands of those that are in the game.

Can understand Kiwi frustrations at trying to answer every question, he like me dont get paid to give you free information that could possibly kickstart your SAP career, so far in these 12 or more pages of this thread, Kiwi has given his freetime to answer at least 70-80% of SAP related questions

he has practically answered every question, we have provided loads of free links where you can carry out your research and it does not hurt for you to do that, seems some individuals dont want to go through these threads, only preferring to ask direct questions when the answers are already there

To me thats laziness and he has every right to be frustrated, remember we are giving up some free time, we are probably using company time to share our vast knowledge on these threads

i get people asking repetitive questions, i suggest you log onto www.sap.co.uk , you can ask them so many questions, they have consultants paid full time to answer questions related to where you fit into SAP, certification questions and just about anything from the SAP world

so far dont think i have read that someone has taken the exams and passed, remember the Indians will be loving this, all mouth and no action, as we speak, there will a connecting flight from Europe to Nigeria with a number of expatriate SAP consultants who will get paid 500-800 pounds day plus accomodation and other benefits to take your jobs

This statement should be enough for you to get that kick in your backside that is neccesary, once again, if your background is Finance / accounting, SAP or ERP financials FICO will be your field, if you are sales/marketing/ logistics oriented, then SAP SD/MM will be the natural progression, you have the other new technologies like SRM, CRM, SCM, HR if you have this sort of background, if you are from the IT background, then SAP tech, basis will be useful, if you have project management experience, then SAP has a new solution manager course available and project management as well

If you are in the retail sector, SAP has Retail, IS Oil, Apparel and footware, Defence amongst others, SAP has a solution for mid sized companies as well

The latest version of ERP are ECC7 eventhough it is not widely used yet, some companies are still using the ECC6 version and ECC5

SAP has now some levels of certification, the entry level is now called the SAP foundation certification for would be junior consultants, there another professional certification and a senior one as well

SAP are making more money by doing this, there are other courses / training available, busines process expert is another one, this seems to be where ERP is heading now, these days its no longer considered important for having configuration skills, you need to be able to apply this skill to your clients business needs

Please stop asking Kiwi too many questions as you are likely to piss him off thats if you have not already, a serious would-be consultant dont need to be spoon fed!!!

@everyone,

That's all that needs to be said, you can never be spoon-fed,you have to make the moves personally.
@myself
Meen,it's not easy getting a job without specializing,i was believing that having the business process certification would aid in one getting a job as a business analyst/trainee consultant, while one saves up money to do the consultant certification,

@OKEYZ
Briz is taking care of the arrangements as to venue and time .
your suggestions are still very much welcomed wrt the meeting
but it is equally suprising that you are the only one interested
be rest assured that BRIZ will make   TIME and VENUE public soon

@BLACKSTA
take time and read one of KIWI's posts

Hi,

Can I just say that implementing SAP is never like your Windows installation.  Far, far from it.  It isn't something that one would talk you through just like that.  It's a very complex process that requires a lot of background reading and indeed, research before the implementation actually begins.

The BASIS Consultants that specialise in this aspect of SAP R/3 don't get paid bucket-loads of money for nothing, I can tell you.

There is no cutting corners or indeed, spoon-feeding.  You've got to do it yourself, I'm sorry to say.  It's either you:

1.  Do the leg work and implement it yourself, just like I did.

Please go to the link that I gave to you ages ago.  USE IT!  Good things in life don't come easy to anyone.  There's a flash file that details the implementation for you on a step-by-step basis.

Surely, it can't be that difficult to implement it such that you've been struggling with it for this length of time.  Oh, yeah, you MUST read-up on the hardware requirements as well, to ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements, in addition to the memory and operating system requirements.  You simply can not plonk SAP R/3 ony any PC.  This is why you need to research it properly before plunging into it.

2.  Pay someone to implement it for you.

In my case, being new to SAP at that time, some Canadian guy offered to implement it for me as long as I paid his return air fare to the UK and back, as well as hotel expenses.

Needless to say, I decided against it, fully aware of the benefits of implementing it myself.  I swotted, researched on the Internet, visited many Forums, read the implementation guides as well as many sleepless nights reading up on Oracle database administration, project managment and so on.  This, in addition to building a new computer that met the minimum hardware and software requirements so as to implement the IDES.

It wasn't easy but I got there in the end and indeed, implemented it that many times on my PC, it became second-nature to me.  The most rewarding thing to do if you ask me 'cos that is the only thing that makes you really get to know SAP R/3 inside out.

3.  Buy pre-installed IDES ECC 6.0 from eBay and install the hard drive on your PC.

I warn you - you might come unstuck!  Ensure you get the necessary instructions from the seller.  Go to the link that I gave to you and read up on others' experiences before you go down this route.

4.  Get online access to SAP R/3 IDES ECC 6.0

Using this method, you just pay for x number of months (or weeks), to enable you access to the IDES online, inorder to train for the module of your choice towards the Consultancy certification.  All the necessary information that you require to do this is all in here as well as in that link.

Finally, as I said in one of my earlier postings on this thread, SAP is NOT for the faint-hearted and that includes the implementation as well as studies for the Consultancy certification.

I'm afraid, I won't be in a position to get into any further communication with you on this specific subject.  I think I've given you enough advice on what to do.  Sorry!  I hope you understand.

SCORP
DONT LOSE HOPE
Good luck as you work on consultancy

BRIZ YOU ARE THE MAN

 Grin heheheheheee
very funny the way peps are avoiding this thread now as if it is producing anthrax, after oga kiwi and markos has decided to say the truth about this whole sap thing, it seems people were thinking it was just as simple as it sounds,not to mention the repetitive annoying questions that comes in different format,
Anyway for those that r still interested lets keep this thread alive, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, anybody who has had a major breakthrough on this thing ,in terms of implementing the IDESS should please drop some hints here,

@ oga naiah
i still dey wait for the soft copy o, and the venue for the rendezvous,
@ scorpio,briz,naiah and the rest keep up the gud work, and the gurus kiwi99 and markos thanks for inflamming us with the drive to excel in this worth while certification,
as for me my mind is made up, i must get CERTIFIED!!!, hook or crook!!

well finishing a project after 2 and a half years  and now off to a well deserved holiday in Hawaii for a month, already signed a contract for a new assignment in September, there are opportunities for people that work hard at passing SAP certification, in these hard times, you need a career where there are endless opportunities, SAP might just be that career, hopefully the financial crisis will ease off and companies will start hiring and big budget porjects will be signed so we can all get good roles
