Hi all, I've found this thread both exciting and stimulating. I've wanted to do something on ERP and have wanted to know more about SAP for more than two years. I have an MBA Marketing background and decided to check the modules for Sales and Distribution especially but they are not available for Nigeria.
Does anyone know how else to do the search? I am also interested in knowing the full cost leading to certification and learning centres in Nigeria, though i don't mind e-learning. Thanks

Some of us are still climbing the ladder.
The higher you go the "cooler" it becomes.
By Gods grace, we shall get there.

HI all, i have been receiving quite a few mails from some forum memebers asking questions about SAP, sorryt dont mean to be rude but all the information you require is right in here if you bother to go through these pages, seems some people dont mind been spoon fed every detail about SAP, i dont mind the odd occasion but i have a job as well, i cant spend my time answering every question, it does not cost more than 10-20 minutes to go through this forum, seems some people are damn lazy, if i went through this route, dont think i will have this experience to share with others, there are loads of SAP consultants that will never share information with anyone as they dont want anyone else having a piece of the lucrative amounts SAP consultants are likely to earn

Remember there are loads of Indians in Nigeria that have taken over the SAP market, dont think they will ever emply Nigerians in India, that also applies to European SAP consultants working in Nigeria, i can only imagine expatriates in Nigeria earning about 1000 US dollars daily plus accomodation, food allowance, flights back home and what not, these are what experienced SAP consultants in Europe and North America earn daily, some even more all depending on the project experience, multiple implementations, companies and what not, this is not hearsay, i am amongst these individuals, not trying to show off or nothing, i am trying to stress out the point, i worked my way up, over 10 years!! i am only 36!!

the longer you wait, there are more flights to Nigeria dropping more SAP consultants, please stop sending me personal mails!!!

@cauchy
Abap and Java are the two STACKS used within an SAP landscape. It is actually common to come across  customers having a dual stack, that is using abap and java.We use the Jco RFC connector to link both.SAP PI,EP,MDM are all java based applications.

You can decide to chose either of the stacks when preparing for your basis exams,Java is quite popular and tough to learn, but anyone with some c or c++ experience should scale through. You would learn about the unix memory management techniques used in a Java environment, note that we only use the sun certified java engine and not the IBM java engine, these two are complete different.

Job prospects??
well with both java and abap skills you would become very competitive but as always experience is key, most companys want guys with experience so you would need to find a place to
get some work experience.

I am not really sure there are that many projects going on in Naija at the moment, most of the implementations that took place were for the business one module, and this is a scaled down version of the full ECC system. So the number of consultants heading to naija is not rising.

CWG have recently signed with SAP to lunch the e-training program,so it might be a good idea to actually visit their office and get some more information.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/10/07/cwg-signs-multimillion-naira-partnership-with-sap-on-e-academy

India,
indian consultants would continue to dominate the sap lanscape, they have a great network and SAP has about 3 offices there already, guys who used to work in sap development in india are now training to become application consultants.,these are abap gurus,so competing against them is going to be tough, they also have a great education system which works. There is no company in the states that does not have indian sap consultants.

the future,
well,it looks good,I believe more companys would start implememting SAP.Which modules they implement is the key,so keep your ears close to the ground and find out whats happening.the recession in the states is coming to a close,we are expecting a rash of new implementations, upgrades, etc, that means jobs for new consultants.I am a technical consultant
so I dont know much about applications.
thanks

the latest SAP rates in the UK, rates per day in the middle graph, you could see the 400 pound to 600 pound a day mark is back on the rise after the economic downturn, this is good news for SAP consultants, hopefully they will rise back to the levels of the early 90s

The silence all this while does not mean we have abandoned the SAP dream. It is very difficult here in Nigeria.A good number of us are already certified  in

different modules while some are the verge of completing the technical admin training via group study and practical sessions with the latest IDESS and the

most current SAP training course materials.Employer's attitude to the certifieds but with no experience is horrible, after committing your family inheritance to

SAP to build a career.

When i read that SAP is not for the faint hearted,i thought it was all about  not getting the right materials to read, practise and write exam.i didn't know it

will be this difficult.i hope ,i mean ,i hope i have not sounded frustrated.

Markos' chart above sometimes upsets me.why ? i dont know.

scorp,okeyz hw una dey?

KIWI n MARKOS ,   na una start this thing oooooohhhhhhhhhhh.

thank you all the same,i wont give up.

@ SCORP, please make me understand o, so i know wat i am really going in to if its worth it, how the practice??,

Would hv loved us to network on this thing, u know,  just create a small community to encourage ourselves ,
i know things will definitely be rossy at the end lets just keep ourselves prepared and ready,so that when the opportunity arises we will seize with both hands, who knows some coys might start hiring peps who r SAP certified experienced or not, cos there r no much experience guys around and the thing is rates are going up !!, and to beat cost down the certified ones without experience might be considered and tutored, ,
this is jst wat one expatriate in my coy was telling me about this SAP thing, the thing is the cert is worth having, so anything worth doing is worth doing well, lets keep our fingers crossed u neva know wat might turn up, but i believe it will be definitely something gud,

Hi Markos, I tried to send you an email but no response from you yet,  I guess since you do not know me,  I came across this forum when I was doing for a serach for SAP jobs in Africa and found the forum very informative. I just got my SAP HCM Certification in August and I trained myself using self installed IDES system. My next step is to break into the SAP HCM market and that is why I am trying to network with guru's like you Markos, if you do have the time you can respond to my email.

I do have materials that I can share with the forum for people who are interested in the HCM module.

Hello everyone.

I have benefitted a lot from this forum and words can not express my gratitude to our elders in this forum such as kiwi992, markos, Felixv, and Briz for their selflessness, kindness and genorousity. I have read every single word on this thread and as a result I was motivated and inspired to take SAP training and certification in the MM module. I went for the 4 weeks classroom training and at the end of which I sat for the exams and I'm glad to inform you that I passed, henced I'm now a certified SAP MM consultant thanks to your inspiration and encouragement.

Hi Mike,

WELL DONE!

Really glad to know that you found this thread useful.  Nowhere else would you find that much inside info about SAP Consultancy certification as you have, in this thread.  It's all aimed at helping our fellow Nigerians break into the SAP mould which is basically a closed shop.

Indeed, that makes you the second person to have qualified as an SAP Consultant with the help of this Forum.  Sooner or later, you would realise that SAP Consultancy certification is really worth its while in industry and commerce, especially, as a new entrant.

Hopefully, your success would spur other Nigerian SAP aspirants here, to try their damn hardest to succeed (against all odds), just like you have done.  I'm sure Scorp is working hard at it as well.

If you are in Nigeria, do try and get in touch with the established SAP Consultancies for the post of a Junior SAP Consultant.  I think Markos did post a link here, sometime ago, about the SAP roadshow in Lagos.  There were some established Nigerian Senior SAP Consultants there who indeed, wrote a blog about it.  I'm sure they'd be much too happy to employ you.  Check-out the blog and network from there.

Markos and I are still waiting to hear about the successes of other Nigerian SAP Consultant-hopefuls in this Forum.  Guys, you know who you are - there are at least ten of you.

Until then, I'll bow out of here and re-surface when the time is right.

Hi Kiwi992,

Thank you once again for the encouraging and uplifting words. Indeed at this phase of the struggle such words are really needed, as having a breakthrough into the SAP industry is proving to be very difficult. Everyone is asking for 3-5 life cycles, I wonder how they expect one to get the experience if one is not given the chance/opportunity to get in.

Please should someone here know of any opportunities for entry level positions please do share.
