Football: World Muslim 11
« on: July 11, 2008, 10:39 AM »

This thought just came to my mind yesternight and I immediately decided to bring it to Nairaland.

Islam is not a religion of frivolity, so the issue of MUSLIM 11 Vs XX RELIGION 11 cannot happen.

But just fantasizing, this is how WORLD MUSLIM 11 will look like if there is to be something like that:

KEEPER
IDRIS CARLOS KANEMI (Espanyol/Cameroun)

DEFENDERS
HABIB KOLO TOURE (CIV,Arsenal)
ISMAILA TAIYE TAIWO (Nigeria,Marseille)
BOULHAROUZ (Holland)
ABDULLAHI MEITE (CIV,Bolton)

MIDFIELDERS
YAYA TOURE (CIV,Barca)
FRANK RIBERY (France,Bayern)
ZINEDINE YAZID ZIDANE (France)
SULLEY MUNTARI (Ghana,Porthmouth)

FORWARD
NICHOLAS ABDUL SALAM BILAL ANELKA (Chelsea,France)
FREDRICK UMAR KANOUTE (Mali, Sevilla)
BENCH
SAMIR NASRI(France,Arsenal)
ELHADJI OUSMANE DIOUF (Senegal,Bolton)
MOHAMMED ZIDAN (Egypt,Hamburg)
ABDULKADRI KEITA (CIV,Lyon)
OBAFEMI MARTINS (Newcastle,Nigeria)

COACH
PHILIP UMAR TROUSSIER

i think Fredrick Kanoute should make the first team because i would start him before Diouf. Also, Phillip Christenval of Fulham should make the bench

I actually forgot Kanoute. He deserved  a spot on First 11. I have since corrected my team.

As for Christenval, I never knew he was a Muslim until you mentioned it. I did some research on google now and confirmed.

I have also read in many fora that Van Persie is a Muslim but I have had a concrete evidence or any formal article to that effect. But I have read posts from people on some Islamic/sporst fora that he is a Muslim.

I think Diarra and Sissoko also deserve a place on the list, even if it is reserve. Maybe I'll extend it to 23-man list.

yeah, christenval is muslim. i knew that long ago. As for Van Perse, his wife converted him and i have read in some forums that he practices islam too but doesnt talk about his faith online or in the media. I don't know the reason for that.

Yess!!! Diara, i have seen him make dua on the half way line before kickoff. His tow hands streched. i have pics of riberry and anelka on my laptop. anelka is seen signing autographs in the masjid

Martins is a Muslim. His mother is Alhaja. Complete sports(or is it Soccer Star) once ran a feature report on his lifestyle, and during a visit t Martins personal house, his brother, Ladi, also a footballer, answering one of the questions, said " You can see, we have many drinks in our fridge, but we don't have alcohol. We are Muslims,we don't take it.'' Also sometime two years ago CS or SS reported during one of Eagles' pre-match camps that MARTINS did not fast because of training but Sani Kaita,Ayila and Taiwo fasted. If he was not a Muslim, they wouldn't have made a story out of his not fasting. After all,Christian needed not fast during Ramadan. I however doubt whether he practises but I'm sure he's a Muslim.
Also few weeks ago, he was reported to be the BEST MAN at a Nikka(Muslim marriage) in Lagos when other Eagles were in camp for our S/Africa match. A Christian definitely can't be the best man in a Nikka(Muslim wedding).
