Help! Am I Dupped? My New Ps2 (slim) Cannot Play Dvd Movies

I just got a new PS 2 (slim version) for my yonger brother, its brand new
it played a DVD game that i copied, but when ever i try playing a DVD movie it doesnt regognize d disk.

Anything i can do? if i change the lens will it work? please help out.

But if it has a modchip, it should stil be able to play a DVD movie,
Like a friends who has d same type of PS2 was able to play DVD Movies and also played recorded games.

u can switch between different modes using the mode chips available over here, Available modes are Backup PS2s mode, backup PS1 and Off mode(DVD mode), Note: these modes go back to the backup PS2 mode when u switch off and On or go to standby mode and come back on, d normal way, to switch to DVD mode when the standby light is on(red), press and hold reset button till u feel a jerk by the game and the blue light comes on, now u can watch the DVDs matching your Region or region free ones, but not play your backup PS2 Cds.
