why do you sound so dumbfounded? so many of you ignorant people in America shei? this has nothing to do with outnumbering whites masters this is an excuse for cry babies, caribeans freed themselves unlike black americans who waited for massas to stop slavery, massas even participated to the civil war to free their slaves .Amazing !!only in America, Marcus garvey a jamaican immigrant fought for black americans to give them a dignity that they will never have ,a lot of carribeans like padmore were shocked when they came to america to see how black americans were domesticated and still are almost like pets.
some blacks were still kidnapped rather than sold. and black people fought just as hard as jamaicans. black people were fighting in america long before marcus garvey was even thought of. marcus garvey never came to give blacks diginity he just started the back to africa movement. blacks in american never thought about relocating to africa until garvey came up with the idea. there were 700 slave revolts annually. blacks in america were murdering, poising their slave masters. who gave you your flawed view of black americans ? did you research black american history? we started the black panthers, who were black activists who were psychologists, engineers, lawyers. they started lunch programs for black children and help stop crime in the black communities. the black panthers even knew kung fu,karate and could dismantle guns from policemen. lincoln never freed the slaves. only the the slaves in the states who refused to join the union were freed. the majority of blacks in america were still enslaved. they had to FIGHT to be free. white people never freed us. we freed ourselves. blacks got the opportunity to vote,go anywhere they want by protesting. caribbeans have strong ties to africa because they were never separated from their families. they were greater in numbers. like i said. the emcancipation of proclomation only freed a small number of slaves. the majority either revolted or escaped. if you READ the emancipation of proclomation it says in the article only "the slaves in rebellion states will be freed" those were very few states. the majority of the slaves escaped.
and if us being outnumbered by whites isn't an excuse what's the excuse of africans being colonised when you were in far greater numbers than whites? what's the excuse of the extreme poverty in africa when you are the richest in resources?
stop letting white people gice you black americans history and research it yourself.
summary please.

its jealousy. its easy to admit carribeans defeated their masters because they live in extreme poverty like alot of Africans.
but yet you won't admit black americans freed themselves because they are not subjected to those conditions so you credit white for freeing and helping us.
when in all actuality the civil war was about states who wanted to be independent and not the join union and states who were already part of the union.
it was not about slavery.
what happened was the states who part of the union won the war. some states who lost joined the union. the states who simply refused to join the union had to release their slaves. the MAJORITY of black americans had to fight to be free and FREED themselves.
this no disrespect to all africans but its the truth.

read the emancipation of proclamation it says REBELLION states not all slaves holding states.
white people fighting was the UNION.
historians also try to say africans have lowest IQ in the world. they also try to say africans never invented anything and were primitive. damn history.
they also try to say the egyptians were mixed race.
they also do not talk about tulsa, oklahoma the black affluent neighborhhod burnt down by poor jealous whites, or how the black men in tuskegee outperformed the whites in flying airplanes. or how a slave invented the cotton gin but eli whitney gotten credit for it.

Ok, this topic is getting out of hand. Some people need to be quiet. All these "you're a slave" comments need to stop.
When you look at it, the average Nigerian is just as lazy as the average American. Believe it or not, if Nigeria was as rich
as America, there'll be lots of lazy africans as y'all claim African-Americans are. Before anyone bum-rushes me, I'm Nigerian
but i haven't seen Nigeria as a country do anything so spectacular to be proud of. Come to think of it, y'all claim AAs have no language.
Duh! That's because they were shipped to America and these were their ancestors, how the hell are they s'pposed to have a language or culture??
Think, people! Even some Nigerians can't speak their languages even the ones living in Nigeria. So what are we talking about here? pheww!!

Thanks for that comment Chiogo. But listen honestly. People do need to get their facts straight, and it is indeed hard to do when you have the white man brainwashing people ans pushing their history books around. However, you can get real history of black americans, it just takes a little research and patience, you have to absolutely FORGET about what whites have said about black and slaves. They want to even go on a as to say that slavery wasn't even that bad. Africans, and not just them, have a very diluted picture of AA. And it is indeed the whites fault.

Same old same old, divide and rule.
The average African and African American are ignorant of eachother in any intimate sense. Due to humans wanting to feel superior in some way, we often cling to any suggestion that we are in fact better than another.
Its an illusion. There are variations in culture/history/values etc, but they shouldn't always be seen as better or worse, just different.

woah!!!!!!!!! Talk about intense!! There definitely is a lot of disrespect for AA's by some Africans. I am definitely part of the diaspora, but while I am neither African nor African American, I can see both sides of the fence. My family is from a small Caribbean island where the survivors of a capsized ship were the ones that settled it. There was no slavery in otherwords. A some of the different tribes that ended up there were the Yoruba, and the Kissi. Those are the ones that I can remember from my grandmother's stories. In short, the more educated you are about where you come from and the world around you, the more tolerant you are. All those who believe that most AA's are ignorant, you are just as ignorant as all the AA's who believe Africa is a country and Nigeria is a state. Until you experience every part of the USA (east coast, west coast, the north, the south and middle America) you will be viewed as Ignorant. Read, watch TV, speak to people, keep your mind open to every information before you make such bold statements. While Haiti and Jamaica freed themselves and are very steeped in their African connection, most of the Caribbean (95%) did not. We as black people need to empower ourselves and quit pitting ourselves up against each other. We all have traditions, culture and beliefs. The African way is by no means better than the carribean, AA or Afro-canadian way. We all have a history and a way of life, lets learn about it so we can not only tolerate each other, but lift each other up.

i saw the most racially biased documentary on the news tonight. first off they tried to say black people make up almost all the AIDS cases but yet statistics UNBIASED statistics say different.
second they tried to say black people sleep around more than white people that's why they have AIDS more often. ive done research and it was found that there is no evidence that blacks are more promiscuous than whites.
third they tried to say AIDS was because of high incarceration rates than black men and that more black men are in jail than in college. but yet black men in college outnumber black men in jail 4 times.
they tried to say black men are more subjected to violence than white but yet whites are arrested for assualt more than blacks.
then it was drugs, needle sharing was the of AIDS. how is drug use the cause of alot of AIDS when white peope use drugs 5 times more than blacks?
STOP BELIEVING THE MEDIA. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Right On! The media is forever lying and using generalizations that are harmful (a lot of times, ) to African Americans and other minorities. I'm assuming that you watched "Black in America" on CNN which me and my family also watched, and while I did agree with some parts ( especially the ones on nutrition in the inner city) some of that stuff was simply hard to believe, the whole "divide and conquer" trend is an old trick, I'm just baffled that it still works with africans and AA's. But sadly there have been tests shown that most people don't go on their own opinions but on the influence of their surroundings and other people (especially authority figures) so when the media does this, its extremely damaging to ones reputation. Here is a funny article on some of those tests: http://www.cracked.com/article_16239_5-psychological-experiments-that-prove-humanity-doomed.html

true words, personally i think more should be done in general to conquer the mutual distrusts, stereotypes name calling between aa s and africans than between blacks and whites because a house divided against itself will never make it like we r seeing now

I don't know how many of you got a chance to see CNN's "Black in America" report. I was dumb founded and The people who were commentating, most of which were black americans made mention of the drug epidemic. The report stated that 1 in 3 black men have a criminal conviction (due to drug related offences), how alot of black American men are not there for their children because they themselves never grew up with a father or father figure in their life, how AIDS rates in the black community here in America rivals that of South Africa and how Black American kids fall behind their white counterparts when they get to high school and how they perform even worse than kids/teens in developing countries. Economist Fray was like, and I quote "you might as well send them to turkey." They showed some woman who had a baby girl by the name of Shalia (sp?) and her baby daddy came late for her daughter's birthday party and stuff. The tension between she and her baby daddy was obvious and the fact that she is pregnant again with twins for another boyfriend she now has It was interesting to say the least. That CNN report "Black in America" really left me thinking. I thank God I am not the product of some liason but rather the product of 2 loving parents who legally got married first before having me and my siblings. The fact that I did not have to grow up in a society where I would have had white counsellors telling me to become a janitor or something instead of pursuing a college degree. I thank God I did not have to grow up in a society where I would have been constantly told that I am inferior or stupid or that my ethnic physical features look ugly. I thank God that I did not grow up in a society where I would have been called a N***a regardless of how young of a child I would have been. I thank God I had true life role models like my parents and not some unreachable celebrity. I thank God for my culture, I thank God I can speak several languages, in short, I thank God for the African woman he created me to be. My children must go to high school back home. I will not want to have it any other way. I went to high school back home and I excelled academically in college here in America without much stress. I am going to give my kids the same priviledge. One last thing, not all Africans look down on black Americans. Some do some don't the same way you also have some black Americans that look down on Africans too based on what the white media shows them about the African continent. Its up to all of us to decide what to believe and what not to believe. Period.

Hmmn! It's hot in here. Africans looking down on black Americans (laughs). We are all blacks quite all right but the AA's are one of the most stupid bunch I have ever known within the black race. All puffed up with pride over nothing! Absolute nothingness! Statistics has shown that in America, they are far behind in education and other aspects of life. Yet when you get to America ,maybe for further studies, your african ascent is seen as a reason to disrespect you or make you seem like a priviledge monkey from the jungle. They tease you endlessly but I got to know that it is out of sheer envy.
Alot of AA's do not have education and are highly myopic. They are threaten by any black seeking for education and even fellow AA's are alienated for daring to climb higher in the society. "Condy Rice" is hated by alot of AAs because they fail to realise that the way up is through education or is it "Oprah" that is said to prefer the whites better.
What pains me is that the AAs seem to be in delirium, living a life of stupidity and calling it sanity. How can an uneducated man face an educated man? The disparity is too much! I am not saying that some AAs are not educated but the percentage is too low, hence the outcry from Bill Cosby calling on AAs to come to their senses.
Take a survey on the Nigerian youths. Yes, our educational system is epileptic but you can see the determination in these youths to make something out of themselves. The Universities are over-crowded beyond capacity yet they still want to be educated. Some of our ladies date richer men just to make sure they can afford education. Some of our guys ride Okadas to pay their way through school, A friend of mine had a sugar daddy send her to the UK for her masters degree. I do not support "Sugar-daddism" but you can see, taste and feel the determination of these youths to make something out of their lives. Then the "mightier than thou" AA who thinks Nigeria is a state in Africa and doesn't know what suffering is in the real sense of the word, will now open his mouth to talk.Chei! And say I live in the jungle. Them no born am well! Why wouldn't i look down on him when he has no sense of bearing and I do! I know where I come from and where I am going to but he doesn't. Why wouldn't I look down on a foolish man who sees himself as wise?

Ouch! That was pretty harsh.
I agree there is determination in the eyes of many African children. There is also the same hope from AA's, the only difference is that they live/have lived in an environment that labels them defective by nature. People need to really look at what they went through and the psychological and emotional effects on them.
An African child can see him/herself becoming a doctor very easily because they have spent their formative years in an environment which allows them to and even encourages them to. The obsticles/barriers are different, its not internal its external, ie monetary for the African child. The system makes sure that an African American child will find it very difficult to have self esteem enough to dream. They do have success also, its untrue to suggest they don't.
Its irresponsible for Africans to look down their nose at AA's without giving any thought to their history. I also think we need to take a look at the moral degredation in many young Nigerians today, what is the point of wanting to become a doctor, but becoming a prostitute first? what is the point of paying your way through school by also becoming a fraudster along the way? There is no honor in that. Its better to be and uneducated hardworking and honest man/woman than to sell your soul to gain so called educational "achievement".
