Y'all better chill out

Last time i checked we were in d friggin third world so attaching such importance to the little we have means something.

I mean, last year i took my lil cousins (on hols ) out there and the looks on their faces wuz worth more than a million bucks to me.

On d flip side some Kids in d Naija delta, extreme North and even some parts of lagos have no hope, yes u heard right no hope of ever going there.

Maybe by d time we get to 2020 and Nigerians r white folk rich then we might start taking such for granted.

As far as am concerned, u guys are just exaggerating.
Shop rite is quite cheap n cheaper than most shops u find on the mainland.
shoprite is a departmental stores.
I don't see any thing fascinating in the dressing of girls I see at shop rite.
They are just normal.
I think u folks have a bit of complex.

You call it shoprite! then what is wrong with a lady going for shopping either clothes, men or whatever? or may be we should try and open another shopping mall strictly for those who are looking for the opposite sex. otherwise there no is big deal for a lady to express herself in whatever way she likes it.

two reasons.
1. send a modern man back to 1million years bc, what do u think their reaction will be, thats the situation here, 9ja's aint used to shopping mall, so its like a rendezvous, and trust 9ja babes to flaunt and flirt themselves where there is every possibility of being 'shoppedrite'.

2. 9ja babes are cheap, and cheap things are supposed to be sold there, so what better place to advertise their cheap selves than at shoprite.

Every mall in the world u see people acting up, why does it have to be differnt here,  because its a nigerian mall u want them to dress like beggars.

Well said paul , its like nigerians are damn too negative, the malls in the states are known to be like a socialising hangout , same across the world. Its like the ones saying this probably dont go out much , so they dnt get to see people all dressed up. Someone also made a comment about Nigerian girls being cheap, but i bet you if someone from say Ghana , UK , Jamaica etc said that, you would go all patriotic on them. Nigerians are their own worst enemy, always knocking eachother, i remember a Jamo girl telling me a Naija guy told her naija girls smell  etc just cuz you wana get some nookie

I've never seen any mall here where people don't dress and look good (because every one is well dressed everywhere they go) . The problem with naija is that, we're used to seeing people dressed so shabbily in the public that we've come to see it as the norms, thereby seeing their dressing at the mall as being too flamboyant

Re: Why Do Girls Dress To Kill At Shoprite?
« #94 on: August 08, 2008, 05:12 PM »

First, shoprite is not the mall. The mall is called The Palms. Shoprite is just a one of the stores that rented a space there just as there are New Metro, PC outlet and others.

Secondly, there  is nothing bad if people dress up to go to the place as there are quite a few high end stores there as well (tifanny Amber for instance). So, it can be assumed that they are going there for some other thing apart from Shoprite or the game, which are the most popular stores in the mall.

Thirdly, the mall culture is fairly new in Nigeria and for many of these people, whose only proximity to a standard mall is what they see in the movies, it can be termed an excitement for them to have these options. Do they go overboard? Yes!! And so what? I rarely have the time to stay that long there and until this thread was started, I never thought about how people dressed. I was there this week at a cafe beside PC Outlet and if not that there was the place chosen by my client, Mr Biggs would have done just fine. People are free to dress as they want to the mall. To now make it a platform for evaluating our values is totally absurd. The ladies who go to Shoprite have made that their business to dress like that to the place.I go to the place if what I want to buy is only available there and I have never cared what people are wearing until someone made it an issue on Nairaland!

A common theme in the responses is the notion that even though Nigeria now has a mall, the people are not 'schooled' in the manner they go to malls. In America, it is like,  Are you guys serious?
