Trapped in pornography and lustful thoughts and you’re a Christian?
Maybe you’re not busy. Maybe you haven’t had fellowship with other Christians. Here’s a formula for you to beat this thing. FLEE, PURSUE AND FELLOWSHIP with other prayerful Christians:
2Ti 2:22 “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
We are given two imperatives in that verse up there by Paul. FLEE AND PURSUE.
What are we to flee from? Youthful lusts
Lust here of course does not mean sexual lust exclusively but it includes it. So it is pertinent to our topic. The word in the original here was used by the Bible writers to mean: lust for money which is greed, lust for power, lust for pleasure which is hedonism, lust for sexual union with one not your spouse and etc. Younger people unlike old people often have this surplus desires, even sinful desires since they have the energy and youth to pursue it.
What does Paul say? He says FLEE. The word ‘flee’ in the original could mean: flee, run away; disappear, vanish. Why does it not say ‘walk away from it or jog away from it?’ Because this kind of lust requires a radical and drastic action on your part. When sensual films or shows on T.V. or magazines parade before your eyes do something immediately about it. Do not wait till the thing melts you deep inside. If you cannot flee or run away from it change the channel. If you cannot do this, disappear or vanish away from the scene of temptation. That’s what Joseph did right? [Genesis 39”12-13].
If lustful thoughts enter your mind, do something immediately about it. Change your thoughts. Be busy. It is true that our thoughts sometimes dictate what we feel and do. But the reverse is also true [though many don’t know about this] that our actions [especially consistent actions] dictate what we feel and eventually what we think. Act like a clown and eventually you will think and feel like a clown. Change your thoughts by continually doing somethng godly.
However, fleeing is not enough. Have you tried fleeing from pornography and lustful thoughts in masturbation and yet you were good only for some time. You eventually went back to it again? Why the relapse? It’s because you were just fleeing away from it with no direction. It’s like running away from the left and staying in the middle. When you flee away from it you must get busy by PURSUING GODLY VIRTUES.

The word ‘pursue’ is in the present tense in the original. Present tense in Greek signifies a continuing and progressing action.
Occupy your time by continually and habitually developing godly character traits. Continually fill your mind with that goal. And do this with other godly Christians:

You cannot beat this thing alone. You must enlist the help and prayers of other Christians. Find an accountability partner whom you can confide your problem and pray about it. Let him ‘meddle’ in your life by constantly checking how your doing. Allow him to be your keeper.

There is nothing wrong with letting off a little steam, or in this case, a little spunk. If you're not ready or able to have sex with a real girl, "tossing one off" is the next best thing.
