finally, i resloved a truly fking annoyance with starcomms genie modem

i use those cool novatel wireless modems - but when i bought for my wife , they gave me the genie.

90% of the time, in VI, when i connect with the genie, it automatically defaults to cdma, with a top speed of 4kbps. typically, i'd spend close to 30 minutes restarting the bloody thing by powering on and off and reconnecting to get evdo, which would give me 40- 50kbps. shit was getting seriously aggravating . . .

anyway, this morning, i fished out the manual, and there it was instructions on picking between dcma, evdo and auto. i set from auto the default to evdo so now i have my 50kbps better than nothing

about two weeks ago i was at the zoom office here in Ph and one of the officials told me the broadband is only in Lagos for now. Guess it would be worth it when they go broadband.

@ flyuche u r right, zoom is 1x in PH.

@All

I am using starcomms izap slim (the flat white one), but the problem is that its connection is only in CDMA and the maximum spped i have ever got was 10kb/s, is there any other setting or is the average download speed general? i am staying in Abuja. Or is there any big difference betwwen the Starcomms izap link and Starcomms izap slim?

^^^^

check the manual

as you can see in my post, i had the same bloody problem with the genie

since its izap, it should be evdo/cdma - what i don't know is if theres a way to set the default, as i do't have the modem

@Oyb
Thanks for the reply, i just check the manual, the option for CDMA, EVDO and HYBRID (both CDMA and EVDO)is there. the hybrid is as the default but i have been getting connected to the CDMA since i but the thingy, and there is no option of me changing the connection from the hybrid to EVDO,  presently, im still left with an average speed of 4kb/s,  its really irritating,
