Expect God’s wrath on corrupt public officers – BishopBy Dare Adekanmbi - 30.07.2008
The Bishop of the Diocese of Ekiti Oke An glican Communion, Right Reverend Olatunde Olubowale, has said public officers, who steal public funds meant for the benefits of the citizens, are invoking woes and wrath of God on themselves.
Bishop Olatunde made the statement during a press conference held at the Synod ground in Iye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, recently. The cleric, who flayed the government for the level of poverty in the country in spite of the country’s abundant human and natural resources, wondered why there was no commensurate level of development with the funds that accrued to all the tiers of government as monthly allocations.
“Our government announces huge budgets but they seem to operate only on foreign aids for it is, invariably, the projects that enjoy foreign aids or partnership that attract visible implementation. Others fizzle out as soon as Nigerians’ hope is raised in rhetorics,” the bishop said.
While speaking on the probe panels set up by the National Assembly to scrutinise the past activities of ministeries, departments and agencies, Bishop Olatunde remarked that probes would not revive abandoned projects, adding that the government was not learning from either the probes or the problems that had led to them.
