Mall of the Emirates just like most of the other malls in Dubai are not cheap, just as expensive as anywhere else in the UK, US etc. I heard there's an outlet that's got super bargains. We didn't make it there whilst in Dubai but you may want to enquire of taxi drivers or hotel staff etc, as they seem to know all the malls. U may want to try the Made in China mall too, things are cheap there but like the name says, they are made in China, so expect quality issues.

If u are looking for cheap (not necessarily good quality ie made in China) goods or wholesale items ask a taxi driver to take u to the "Gold Souq" in Deira. There u will find gold and in the surrounding shops cheap clothes, shoes, electronics accessories etc. Most Nigerians who are here for shopping (to resell things) go to this area.

If u are looking for fairly decent knock-off juicy,Gucci, fendi, Louis vuitton bags, slippers, watches etc some random Indian dude(s) will walk up to u and say "ma'am,sir Gucci, fendi,Louis vuitton handbags, shoes etc" and will hand u a card. If u oblige him, he will lead u through an alley/allies to a very cruddy looking apartment that is heavily bolted and may even have a camera outside the door in case u happen to be a police officer.

They may try to make u pay ridiculous amounts for the fake goods. At this point simply start arguing with them about prices in a loud voice and they will even give u what u want at half price for fear that u may alert the police  Grin

The outlet Ilelobola is referring to is in Ajman which is about 30-45 minutes from Dubai. I think it is pure CRAP. The stuff is old mostly (out of season) and the Nine West outlet there has things which are almost the same price as the Nine West stuff u find at the mall.

If u want pretty good quality clothing/accessories at reasonable prices try Deira City Center. There is  Forever 21,  Bershka and H&M. You would find good office wears at Zara. Since it is summer u might find good bargains in the malls.

Hope this helps Smiley

Accessories ,Yes. Clothes, No. Dubai is not the best place to get your clothes. The prices for the new ones are a rip-off, and the quality for the fake designers + second hand ones are not worth it. I went to the famous second hand market and was very dissappointed-I wouldnt even buy clothes as a gift for me enemy; it made me to treasure my Liverpool St Market/East Street markets in London better.

Fully agree with you on this one. Now i'l rather opt for shopping for clothes in UK than Dubai. The prices of good quality clothes are grossly & unduly exxagerated. Meanwhile what tends to be more rampant are substandard clothings. This whole thing got me thinking. It so ironic that many Nigerians would travel several thousands of miles to buy substandard goods while bad-mouthing and despising our home-made Aba goods don't point accusing fingers, i know i'm guilty too but i neva bad-mouthed made-in-Aba goods sha o.  i believe some of  our home-made goods are even superior to theirs.

 lami4life ,

I  totally agree with  you,  I  have just  come back from Dubai, what  a  disappointment, there is  no  bargins in that country.  Even the designer  stuff I could  get  cheaper in London. If  your going Duai just  go and  sight  see and see The Burj Al Arab(7star hotel) and not  shopping.

If you are looking for cheap things do not go to the malls or anywhere on Sheikh Zayed Rd. Your one and only destination should be Deira, near the Gold Souk. If you are willing to go to other emirates then go to Ajman. There are many outlets in Al Zahra in the industrial area that sell cheap crap stuff.  Grin Grin

Dubai is expensive only if you want to live there or vacation for a long time. But shopping in Dubai is uber cheap if you know where to look. Next time why don't you hire one of those guys that guides shopping people around. They will take some percentage of what you buy, I think. They know all the places to go to get cheap goods.
