I noticed that even your best friend you lend your clothes to wear, would betray you at your back at the slightest of opportunity and say: ah! ''OMO IBO'' even the common language that people use on the street in YORUBA land proves my point. There are some decent YORUBA people but most are prejudice. Let me take you through some of this word: 1 NYAMIRIN 2 IBO AJE OKUTA MA MU OMI [ IBO that eats stone without drinking water] 3 IBO BURUKU [ Bad IBO] 4 IBO AJE NIYAN [ IBO the human eater] 5 IBO OLOGUN [ IBO has no magic] 6 OMO IBO
Are you guys our brothers or just haters?.

I like Igbos a lot. My best friend is Igbo. My first girl friend was Igbo. I spent most of my time, out of my house, in over at my Igbo friends house. I am even in support of Biafra.
The only Yorubas that might have problems with Igbos are the muslims (for obvious reasons) and the merchants that have to deal with Igbo merchants flooding the market with fake goods.

Try to understand me when I entered NIGERIAN FORUM for the first time it was a cultural shock to me, looks more like a RUSSIAN fascist site, I could not believe this is happening. THE IBO MAN IS HIS WORST ENEMY, IBO GIRLS ARE TOO MATERIALISTIC, IBO THIS, IBO THAT etc, any civilized or right thinking person or any one that has even the lowest atom of civility in them should be able to evaluate the whole of this site and ask them selves this question; "ARE THE IBO'S STARS OR ARE THEY JUST HATED FOR NOTHING", am sure that deep down there soul they would surely arrive at a very startling answer. The whites has a lot of hatred in there heart but not for there own people or there own kind, wake up people are we all gone mad or is there anything I don't understand?. y do u think its only yoruba that hates igbos ave eva asked yourself if igbos hate yoruba. A classical reaction of a tribalist or a fascist, In the future try not to answer question with question, to your question, yes most IBO people I know are too preoccupied doing there stuff than hating there YORUBA counter part, we all know that people start to look for whom to blame there failure on when they 've failled. I like Igbos a lot. My best friend is Igbo. My first girl friend was Igbo. I spent most of my time, out of my house, in over at my Igbo friends house. I am even in support of Biafra.

When I talked about few decent YORUBA GUYS I meant people like you , but try to avoid the jealous stereo type that hide under the views that IBO'S flood the market with fake goods, they sure ain't insinuating that YORUBA'S don't sell fake goods, isn't it?. Cant you see is all about jealousy.

I think this guy is right. Yesterday at work we actually discussed this. We are 7 in our ITunit and the only folks that didn't like each other is me and one igbo guy. We talk but we both know that we don't like ourselves for no reason than i'm yoruba and he's igbo we both admit. But funny enough my girl is igbo. So the truth is yorubas does not like igbos and igbos does not like yorubas.

Drusilla, that won't be needed. I mean, I like Igbos and all, but if I could split Nigeria into 3 groups, the Igbos and the Yorubas will be separated. And just in case you are wondering, Yorubas and Igbos don't look alike.
While Igbos are kool, their loose native political structure tends to produce "strong men." I just think that is too risky. The institutions should run the country, not personality cults.

Drusilla, you see, these personality cults are exactly the thing that breeds corruption. It is a lot easier to corrupt a hand full of people, than it is to corrupt an entire system.

2 IBO AJE OKUTA MA MU OMI [ IBO that eats stone without drinking water] my mom says that. and NO she doesn't hate Igbos it's used to refer to ibo food (eba) and how solid it is (like stone i guess). I like ibo food and she does too. I like yoruba food better though. Probably because that's what i'm used to. OMO IBO means "Ibo" so if you're called omo ibo it just mean you're ibo. It'll be better if someone's refered to by his/her name though. If someone knows your name but calls you omo Ibo all the time, maybe you should smack him/her IBO BURUKU (bad Igbo) but then, many yoruba moms call their own children this (omo buruku / bad child). I don't think it's right either way. SOME youruba (not most) are prejudiced. SOME igbo? Ibo? are also prejudiced. I'll agree w/ Drusilla here: We're all One. so there shouldn't be hate.

I don't see anything wrong in Igbos. This is the first time i am even hearing of this. I have enough Igbo friends as well as yoruba and I treat them the same. I don't think there is as much prejudice as is portrayed by NINETOFIVE. Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa, as long as they are nigerian and they are cool, i am cool with them.

LOL. @ NinetoFiveI've never lived among many Yoruba people but I do have some Yoruba friends and they almost never reference my ethnicity, so I can't relate to that experience. I see that you're new to the forum and perhaps saw the worst of it early on. I also don't like all this nonsense people put on the internet about ndi Igbo but the same is done for other groups. I must say that people on Nairaland love to call the name of IGBO when they want to hate! Either he/she hates in general terms or it seems that it is "Igbo girls", "Igbo men", "Igbo land". . .my brother there is no end. But keep making friends, and I'm sure you'll meet unprejudiced people. They're out there! Wish I had some secret to tell you on how to find such people but I don't know it. Just be open & honest and people like that will gravitate toward you.

Thanks for the positive words and keep the faith, I sure do too, like I made mention on my earlier write up, there are few decent ones no doubt about it, the problem is the rest majority {no harm meant}, you have to understand the language to know what they are up to. Even if I put aside my earlier experiences with the Yoruba's in NIGERIA, I will give you one example, most of the businesses in the UK are owned by INDIANS not withstanding that the YORUBA'S has been in the UK for over 60 years now, the IBO'S are very few in the UK. One day I was passing the front of a shop in LONDON and I over heard two YORUBA guys said; OMO IBO WON TUN TUN DE, WON FE RA LONDON PA {ie IBO BOYS THEY 'VE COME AGAIN, THEY WANT TO BUY THE WHOLE OF LONDON } because tho shop belongs to an IBO person. I would be very honest with you, no IBO person would make such a comment, I know and you know, the only thing an IBO person would have said in that context is; NNA LOOK THAT SHOP BELONGS TO A NAIJA MAN O. In another occasion I was sitting in a restaurant and I over heard some YORUBA guys discussing, some how they brought up a topic about IBO'S, somebody said; IBO NA SECOND CLASS NOW NA WE BE THE RULING CLASS. That don't sound too good ain't it, after all we as southerners struggled to bring back the government to the south, you see betrayal 24/7.

Yorubas don't hate Igbos. Calling you omo ibo isnt an insult. It's just mean u are omo igbo. Abi are you not? Igbo ajeniyan, was formed because of calabar people. U know they eat people, and that man that eat people too. I Know that's stupid to call the whole community "ajeniyan" because of that. And u know how calabar people are considered "igbo people". These things u even listed are not enough reasons for u to say Yoruba people hate igbo people. Everyone has their own opinions on stuffs though. I've never heard someone say "ibo buruku". U just added a yourba curse word to Ibo, and u trying to cause wahala with that. I know of omo buruku, but daing ibo buruku? Someone mite have called you that, but NOT EVERY yoruba person will call u that. U are prolly mixing with the wrong yoruba people. YES there are BAD yoruba people, just like we have BAD igbo people and bad hausa people. WHOEVER said, Igbo has no magic is a fxcking liar. IGBO's have MAGIC, power name it. The hell, majority of the babalawo's in Nigerian movie are igbo's. SO if u wanna claim back the fact that igbo people have magic. U can claim it.

I have never heard/notice or witness, that Yoruba's hate Ibo's. All the names the author claimed Yoruba's call Ibo's I've never heard most of them before except "Aje okuta ma mu omi" which my grandmother use to call me back in Nigeria. Yes I'm a Yoruba boy.
No Yoruba's do not dislike Ibo's from my experience in Nigeria UK and France we all see each other as one. Eventhough i call my Ibo friends omo Ibo, they never find it offensive.
I believe we Yoruba's love to call people names but we meant no harm.

Yorubas are highly suspicious of the motives of an Igbo man, the Igbos are also suspicious of the Yorubas. Everybody is suspcious of everybody. Will there ever be room for trust in this life? This seed has been sown in us by the previous generation. Here is my advice to everyone here, dont sow the seed of mistrust, give the coming generation a chance to live life in peace and harmony.

Why don't you just admit to yourself that YOU hate Yorubas and stop playing the victim card. you're not the first person to do this so don't feel lonely. I'm yoruba and proud to be yoruba and i won't let you make me feel bad about my culture so hold your opinion as you'll like. I'm even more proud to be Nigerian though and that's why I very much dislike Afeni's anti-nigerian posts even though he's nice and polite. if someone called you "aje kuta ma momi" it's probably because they think you eat too much non-liquid food or solid food without drinking water (that's a symbol of strength in my opinion). even some yorubas get called that (as in babwilm's case) so don't think only igbos get called names. Yorubas like name calling and call each other names too. even their own children gets called " omo buruku" It's so widespread that it doesn't even hold much meaning anymore.

Only by going through the write ups on Nairaland is even enough to see things from my point of view. lol @ Hotangel's post you're calling him names? lol @Ninetofive, yes i've also seen other threads on this site where some people complain about hate/ ethicism at any slight joke or misunderstanding and take it all personal. I think it's a little childish in my opinion. If someone acts mean to you because your igbo (who knows someone might be mean to you and be oblivious of your ethnicity), go up to his/ her face and tell him/her straight up because yes there are yoruba haters! just like there are igbo and hausa haters! (only some complain more than the others) but your "most yorubas are haters" statement just doesn't make sense to me. If you feel most are haters then your just going to starting on the wrong foot with people you know could be nice and polite. It'll make you develop an unecessary phobia. and don't take every single comment personally. Yorubas fight a lot and call names but they don't have really bad intentions and . . . "omo ibo" whether you like it or not IS NOT name calling. it means ibo person or ibo child. it's the statement that comes after you could use to judge whether it's of a bad or good intention.
