Banks And Interswitch To Increase ATM Charges
« on: August 05, 2008, 08:06 AM »

BANKS AND INTERSWITCH have concluded plans to increase ATM charges to N150 effective from 1st sept,2008,
Sometimes i just wonder what CBN is doing but i guess they all share the unjustifiable profit,
At the end of the year, the yeye banks will declare billions of naira as if they render good services, Innovative graduates are looking for some meager loans to kick off but these banks would never offer such loans,
fellow nairalanders, do you think our banks are doing enough to justify all these ungodly charges?

u wont get charged if u use your ATM on your bank's ATM machine except some few banks that still charge like ZENITH , i learnt zenith bank charges customers N60 even though they have zenith card and use it on zenith ATM,
but i am certain that from sept, the banks want  to increase the charges to N150, this is why they declare ungodly profits at their financial years, while they fail to perform their social responsibilities,

i opened a zenith account after getting thier ATM i decided to test run it the next day only to find out that 65 naira was deducted from my account. I printed the stuff from my system and rushed to the bank thank God it was next building to my office.
The CCO told me that i was an ATM charge, since then i have not used that card on the ATM.

Zenith bank should try and re-consider this coupled with the fact that they make more money through other services.

at times i wonder what we use d bank  for, a situation whereby they deduct money d way they like, IBPLC deducts 50 charge when u use your ATM and withdraw from d bank, but they re not suppose to deduct money because its d bank one banks with.

i wonder what will happen when d charge becomes 150?

In my own view i see ATM cards and Machines as a convinient means of withdrawing money.
The idea was to reduce the number of people in the banking hall, withdraw your money anytime you like and also for easy transactions.
Why then will these banks be charging customers anyhow? for heavens sake, N150 is too much
Recently i entered Oceanic Bank and they informed all customer who wants to withdraw any amount less than N100000 should make use of the ATM if not they would be charged.
Are ATM machines now by force or by choice?if they are encourging customers to use ATM Machines then they should improve their service, provide more ATM Machines and try to reduce this high charges.

I think they should explain what the charges are for? for instance intercontinental charges N10 for using ATM compared to N65. Habaaa! its too much now. CBN should put this things in check.

That's why I like Unity Bank. They dont charge their customers any fee for using their ATM, not even the monthly fee of N100 that other banks charge. They only charge the normal COT if the customer has a current account.

@tulk2mi

GTB dont charge for ATM if u withdraw thru their ATM,  I think GTB is da best bank,  UBA is da worst bank have ever seen. They are theifs! They charge on withrawal outside the branch for 105.00 Naira. They charge 100.00Naira withdrawal below N20,000.00 outside the branch or not,  that means if you are withdrawing outside the branch below N20k dey charge 205.00 I have experienced it b4. I bank with both GTB and UBA. I think GTB is da and good customer service,  UBA poor,  If your ATM got stolen or misplaced. I bet you will not be issued another one and dey will still charge 100.00 Naira every month for the ATM,  BULL SHIT!!

I totally agree with you GTB is simply the best bank, ask me how i knoe.I have banked with almost all the 24 banks we have and i have compared their services. The kind of bright young faces that welcomes you alone is thrilling. To add to the worst banks ,i mean to say the worst bank in the whole of nigeria, UNION BANK,that bank need a total overhaul and rebranding,.The average age of their staff is around 50 years. They seem to me like ministry workers. They should better take a que from their former conterpart( Afribank that is going throuhg a reformation process

Banks and their hidden charges! Angry
What gets me upset with most banks is that they dont give their customers all these details. Thats why am so wary of them. My principle is, tell the client ALL about the business he wants to transact or the product you are offering and let the person make a choice. It smacks of dishonesty. i have learnt my lesson long ago, i dont take banks and their products/services for granted. if when they print something as routine as your statement, please go through it!
As for INTERSWITCH and co, well, it cant be their fault! Huh
Its a monopoly.
We had it coming.
Perhaps its time to crowd the banking halls again.
