Read the confession of an actor, Charles Okafor turned preacher. I’ll be stupid to say there is no sexual gratification in NollywoodSex for roles in Nollywood?Yes! I will be the most stupid person if I tell you that there is no sexual gratification or a condition attached to each role a female artiste takes. I don’t believe in that school of thought where truth is subdued and lies glorified. Why is it that actors go outside the film industry to pick their wives. You see them in skimpy dresses and they prostitute themselves at night. http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/showtime/2005/sept/02/showtime-02-09-2005-001.htm

I have read at least 3 newspaper interviews by Nigerian actresses who claim that they recieve sexual overtures no more often than girls in other industries, and it's up to them to say "yes" or "no" And those claim they have always said "no" and it has not prevented them from getting good roles in Nigerian movies and becoming popular.
Because of that, I'm a little bit skeptical about Charles Okafor's claim here. Maybe all he's saying is that some ladies use their sexual favours to get ahead of other female actresses who are not willing to do the same. Not that the ladies are being forced, but that they're using their sexuality as a tool to get ahead of others in a very competitive industry.
The above interpretation might make more sense, or what do you think?

Yes, some, not all. Infact it's not peculiar to Nigeria and the movie industry.

How true are those who denied publicly?

I am seriously going to say, some people give sex for roles.
And those that always deny it in public, are likely to be those that do it.

if you got good roles. . . and people publicly asked you if you slept with someone to get it, wouldn't you deny it? Lots of public denials indicate actresses who people feel do not deserve their current roles, who are extremely beautiful, or the desires of the public for intimate details of celebrities.

I've heard this happens, and I think its such a pity. Anyways, people would not admit to doing it. I hope that it can be stopped, though i doubt it.

It is a fact that upcoming actresses give sex for roles. There is this story that a producer once has his way with not less than eight actresses who are itching to get him give them a role in a non-existing nigerian movie to be starred by Wesley Snipes. Imagine!

seeing that the same producer could probably have his way with lots of other women, who are not actresses, why do we care if he has his way with some actresses as well?

The sad part is, most of them don't. And even if they do, it'll be just for once or twice. So u see.... it really ain't worth it.

and i'm sure the actresses know this, therefore, they are probably not giving sex for roles, they are having sex for whatever reason that other people decide to have sex. it just so happens that some of the men that are in their circle are producers.

In my opinion i really think that some of these naija actresses give sex 4 roles b cause some of them even said it in newspapers and even its very obvious. And have u noticed they keep on repeating da same people over and over again God its annoying. Plus,i think those actresses are having sex 4 money b cause they don't ever get picked 2 play a role in a movie.

If they are giving sex for roles, ,then i have to become one of the producers/directors - so that i can be collecting from all those fine, fine Nigerian actresses,

It makes perfect sense that specific actors and actresses are being used over and over by a director or really, a producer. . .especially if they are trying to groom someone to be the next best thing.

I'm not too comfortable with the way he portrays the female artistes. So long standing actresses that have been around should not be looked upon as role models? And every successful female artiste is immoral, a prostitute etc? Thats what he implies.
And the directors and producers (as he was once one) who encourage women to give sex in exchange for roles, don't they have a part to play in this disturbing trend? (quoted this from someone on another site, yes i be thief)
kind of found a little difficulty agreeing with him totally. its good that as human beings we don't completely generalized and look down on all as thesame. this type of stereotypism gets us no where and creates bad name for good people.
i've also heard about this sleeping around thing in the industry but i've never looked at any actress as one who would sleep with a director for the part she plays in a movie (because i don't know anyone that has slept with them, and i don't know their history or day to day living). we are women, most often (although irritating) we are approached with that offer, but as many have agreed to sleep with this disgusting directors, some have also declined such offers.
its unfortunate that most people just posted because of course coming from a pastor with a history in the movie industry, he obviously knows what his saying, right? but does he know each and every one of the actresses that has accepted and denied sexual offers for roles. abeg!!!!!! , we have to stop looking down on our women, its getting ridiculous in this our todays society.
he made a good point, but u just don't categorize actresses like that. just because most people do it doesnt mean all do it.

If this is true, then it certainly explains why we have certain very clumsy actresses in particular roles, That Eni Ido for explain who is a very native girl, she must have done a lot os "sleeping" in order to be brought to the lime light, she is so obviously a square Peck in a round hole.

I think Nigerian producers need to have higher standards so we don't scare away 'decent' people who want to act.
