Hitv's New Reality Show 'Nigeria' - Would You Watch It?HITV Offers N10M to Patriotic Nigerian
If you are not one of many of us Nigerians who can barely recite the national pledge talk less of the national anthem, then it is your time to win yourself some money for being a little bit more, patriotic.
The most successful satellite Television to have come out of Nigeria, HITV has placed on offer a N10 Million prize for the winner of the forthcoming Nigeria Reality Show, a brainchild of the Satellite Television.
The reality show is the first of its kind in that it is out solely to promote the nigerian identity. How? You may want to ask?
The show would consist of 18 contestants (three each from the six geopolitical zones) to be called 'neighbors' who would be required to live in a house, to be called Nigeria for a period of eight weeks.
The 'Neighbors' would be engaged in weekly tasks individually, however, inter-tribal solidarity (as they call it) is allowed. The winner of each weekly task shall be President of 'Nigeria' for that week.
As usual, the fate of the neighbors have been left in the hands of the audience who are to be called the Supreme Council for the purpose of the show. The Supreme Council would exercise their authority through weekly votes through SMS to determine who is evicted.
The Supreme Council would also be given the opportunity to either bash or praise the neighbors in the village square to be called 'hot seat. How they would achieve that, we shall wait and see.
Furthermore, the Neighbors on admission into Nigeria, would be given "3 lifelines; 2 green balls and a white ball. The 3 balls allow a Neighbor to either call a friend or a relative, outside the house for help, when tasks become difficult."
I guess you can now see it's a first of its kind.
However, for those of you whose eyes and ears are already bulging having heard the prize money and would want to give it a shot here are some tips.
First, you must be a Nigerian within the age grade of 25-40 and you must have a minimum of HND education. You must also be intelligent because they would test you in English, Cultural, Social, and Current affairs at the Zonal screenings. Then, you must be an indigene of the zone you intend representing and must be 'Proudly Nigerian in fashion sense'.
Apart from those, you must be able to speak at least one other Nigerian language fluently, apart from his Mother Tongue and English. One more thing, you must be rich in the socio-cultural ethos of the tribe you claim and be willing to learn and integrate other cultures and languages.
You can register online. Don't worry you do not have to pay for that, it's free. Zonal screenings will be held in Ibadan, Port-Harcourt, Abuja, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Enugu.
In addition to the N10 Million cash prize, the winner would be tagged THE NIGERIAN, 2008 and would represent Nigeria at notable world festivals of culture and tourism.
So, what are you waiting for? Go register online and be sure to have all other requirements and then pray to get a chance to contest for N10 Million. http://www.mynaijanews.com/content/view/1424/86/

@naijacute, the show could not start at all, the starter of the thread already stated it that Endemol, the owner of Mnet sued HITV that they cant start the reality show called "Nigeria". Can you imagine? No wonder the spate of attacks of DSTV Big Brother is also on the high side nowadays in this country. I bet we the customers are are going to enjoy this. Have you also read the angle of Zubair the MD of HITV, he used to be in DSTV, sounds interesting, dont you think? Now, we now know the reason behind all this hullabaloo between the two.

@mustay, They did not have a case in court during the countdown. They were served an injuctions restraining them from starting the show. I understand you dont fancy HITV with a passion, but this is beyond their power.

@ twins. I do not hate hitv with a passion moreover 'case' wasn't used in the legal sense of the word. What am saying is, the show was advertised on hitv's website and when it got to the kick off date, it was removed without any info. Like most of our sites, Nigeria's website had no information but "coming soon".

HiTV’s Nigeria Reality Show Starts October 1
From all indications, the commemoration of Nigeria’s 48th independence anniversary would be very grand as HiTV, Nigeria’s indigenous pay TV service provider has announced October 1, as the new date for the commencement of the broadcast of its much awaited TV reality show tagged ‘Nigeria’
The show which was initially billed to commence on July 5th 2008 was suspended as a result of a court injunction at the request of Endemol, copyright owners of the Big Brother (BB) reality show which is aired on Multichoice DSTV. The injunction was later struck out by Justice A.M Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
It would be recalled that Endemol had approached the court seeking an order restraining HiTV from airing the show because the concept, it claimed, was an infringement on its intellectual property right of Big Brother.
As a responsible corporate citizen that operates under the principle of the rule of law, HiTV had to put the show on hold pending the resolution of the court case.
It is pertinent to note that the concept of NIGERIA is original and bears no similarity of any sort to the BIG Brother concept as it was motivated first and foremost, by the need for national integration, peaceful co-existence and mutual respect among the different ethnic groups that make up Nigeria.
It would be recalled that eighteen Nigerians had earlier been selected out of the thousands that applied online to participate in the show. The screening process which was conducted across the six geo-political zones of the country produced the culturally intelligent and smart individuals who would live as Neighbours during the show.
The Neighbours are expected to engage in weekly tasks that ignite their intellectual capabilities, knowledge of on-going social issues, cultural/traditional influences and international relations amongst others. The winner of these weekly tasks becomes the ‘’President’’ for the week.
These Neighbours would be required to live together in a house called NIGERIA for the eight week duration of the show, though deportations would take place from time to time, until a winner to be called ‘the NIGERIAN’ emerges.
According to a statement released by the Marketing Department, “our essence of expending huge resources towards the show is borne out of the need to enhance and propagate the positive image of Nigeria as a whole, its constituent parts and the togetherness which its various peoples share. More importantly, the show will present world-class television entertainment to Nigerians in the comfort of their homes”.
Finally, the Management of HiTV would like to commend our teeming subscribers, shortlisted participants and various corporate bodies that signified interest in supporting the project for their patience and understanding.

That must be a joke right. It's not an essence to launch a site when there are no contents there. Every link has the coming soon extension: http://nigeriarealityshow.com/coming-soon.php
