Ah, the debate still lingers, I see!
Allow me to raise a question, and this is a question that those who take a stand on both sides of this issue can answer:
If you are homosexual, do you think that those who oppose homosexuality do so because they feel that it is wrong to engage in homosexual behaviours OR that they would be uncomfortable being "labeled" as homosexual?
If you are not homosexual, do you find homosexuality wrong because of what it is or what it represents to you? Please explain what you feel that homosexuality is and/or what it represents to you.
Clearly, as you read the postings in this thread, many straight people have experimented with (i.e., engaged in, on occasion) homosexual behaviours. Doing so has not changed their orientation. Likewise, many homosexuals have engaged in so-called "straight" behaviours and, again, doing so has not changed their orientations. Indeed, looking beyond the anecdotal stories in this thread, one can find sources (Kinsey, Masters & Johnson et al) which support this.
Could it be that our very definitions of "homosexual," "heterosexual," "bisexual" nad even "asexual" are due for reconsideration?
A very good question , as for me i think people who "hate " homosexuals just don't have a deep meaning of it , people still believes gays are the girlish kind of guy , they want to have sex with every guy they meet and they are afraid to be seen around a girlish guy so people wont tag them as gay also . but now is the other way round , the gay guys i know and i have meet are succesful business people , masucline and responsible and i am proud to be seen around them . Some people just need to get re-oriented and be more open minded. |

after that bizarre incidence i became curious to find out about gays that i never thought could exist in nigeria,then i stumbled on the threads and of course you,i don't judge people so i won't judge even my friend was only reported to one person i know could help him get over it and even though i find it a little bit difficult ,i still keep him on talking terms but never would he ever get the chance to share my room with me,but i'm glad you could stand your ground despite all those yabs on this thread, afterall fornication is fornication whether straight oR homo,but guy are you going to marry a man ? excellent question. i have over time come to learn that the simple and only truth about the fear of homosexuality by so-called str8 men is borne of nothing but the fear of the label.from my experiences,one sure way of getting a str8 guy to relax is to strip the relationship of labels.i have learnt that human sexuality is quite fluid.there are no absolutes.i have a few experiences that prove this. |

Well i still remain on my stand that Nigerian economy can make anybody that does not fit into the "economy "do anything , take for instance go to travel secton of nairaland and read through some post , u will see how desperate people are to leave the country , if a gay guy offer some of this people an opportunity to travel out and they give sex in return , you will be surprise that so many of them will be willing to . have seen where straight guys sleep with gay guys just to get something out of them , even in the UK when same sex marriage was legalised lot of straight guys went into this just to get papers

Glad you find my questions thought-provoking! And, glad that you're willing to think about them. Too often, doing so makes people uncomfortable and they "shut down" and dismiss any thoughts other than their own.
If two (or more, should that be your propensity) adult persons are amenable to and consensual with respect to a given sexual act, and that act is not harmful or hurtful to anybody, then there is no reason that it should not be enjoyed by those said persons. If, indeed, an individual feels that this is wrong, then that individual need not participate in such behaviours.
This is why I believe (as I have stated elsewhere in this thread) that the issue is probably not necessarily one of "conversion," but, rather, one of making manifest the opportunity to engage in such a behaviour which is outside one's general realm of experience.
This intensity in thread seems to have cooled down, and the exchanges are more civil, which is good. This is a good thing, because it is logical, clear thinking rather than emotional vitriol that will serve the nature of this--or any--topic to its best.

True, indeed, darkroll!  Let's look at an example: Surely, we know people who practice different faiths than we. Do we think less (or more) of those people as individuals? Are they not still our co-workers, neighbors, team mates, band mates, etc.? We must accept and respect that others are different so that we, too, may be allowed to be different. We don't have to become followers of their faiths, nor do they have to become adherents to ours. So it is with homosexuality. We all know somebody who is gay or bisexual, whether or not we're aware that they are. |
