Did you know that HIV/AIDS is threatening children as never before? Although most people living with HIV are adults, children under five account for one in six global AIDS-related deaths, and one in seven new global infections. As we enter the third decade of the epidemic, a child dies of an AIDS-related illness every minute of every day, and a young person contracts HIV every 15 seconds!!
Every day, over 5,000 young people aged 15-24 are infected with HIV, there are almost 2,000 new paediatric infections mostly through mother-to-child transmission, and 1,400 children under 15 die of AIDS-related illness. 15 million children have lost one or both parents due to AIDS. And yet, the overwhelming majority of adolescents and young people around the world do not know how to avoid the disease!
We can help stop the virus… it starts with YOU! We need to share knowledge about how HIV/AIDS is affecting young people in different countries, and share creative ideas about how to get the word out, to stop the spread of HIV!
What do you think?
-What does HIV/AIDS look like in your country? Are children affected? -How do you think young people can get involved in stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS? -How do you think we can get the word out that children are also affected by HIV/AIDS and help stop the spread? Reply
