No Unification Based On Race.
« on: June 22, 2006, 01:29 AM »

There, I said it. This is geared towards all you pan-Africanist that are hell bent on destroying all cultural and ethnic identity in hopes of raising some kind structure that will unify all black people. Well, I am not interested in it. Don't get me wrong, it sucks what happened in the past, but resurrecting of ethnic State is a lot more pressing matter than creating unity based on race. Honestly, I don't even think such a thing is possible or even needed.

What I want is something that correlates with the reality on the grounds. No matter how hard you will like to pretend, Hausas, Yorubas and Igbos e.t.c. are not the same because they are classified as being black. In fact, I will say there is more hatred between Hausas and Igbos than there are between Jews and Nazis. Stop forcing unity where it does not exist.

There you have it. I have said what has been on my mind for many weeks now. Thanks for reading. This goes out specifically to Drusilla, Hero, Seun, and [insert all the Nigerian cowards (particular the southerners) here on Nairaland that would rather pretend everything is ok]

Afeni,

Are you a good farmer? Or will you need to be put in prison for reeducation before we send you to the farms?

UNity based on common interests is what I propose.  When there is peace and progress, everyone benefits.  We are all human beings and that's what we have in common.  The yellow, red and green people are human beings too.

Afeni agreed we as a nations still has a few problems with tribalism nd prejudice between tribes, that is not 2 say we cannot work it out. Nigeria would only grow forward if we all try to forget this prejudices and move on.

Its hard, its almost impossible, its a waste of time etc. I know all these, and so does everyone here, but that does not mean u should encourage it, and call everyone that believes we can make it work cowards. If u keep thinking like this, and encourage evryone to think like you, m afraid 2 say Nigeria would never move on, and that is what i fear the most.

Unity based on common interest is nice on paper. But just like communism, what you see on paper is not always what you get in reality. You see, it is unreasonable and narrow minded to somehow assume that your interests are the interests or another ethnic group. And lets just assume that the parties are interested in the continuation of their nation, what kind of interest are you talking about? Because, you must remember, that even in situations that are mutually beneficial, they can still exist a great deal of resentment.

Take Nigeria for instance, technically, if it was in the Southern Nigerians interest to remain one, then it would be because breaking up will be messy and bloody. Now, it is in the Northern Nigerias interest to remain one because they don't produce anything of value. In short, the northern States must get that monthly oil check or their entire system will go under.

So, in such an arrangement, the mere fact  that the Southern States are a lot better off leaving, but choose not to because of fear of war, is enough to destroy your entire notion of common interest developing unity. Instead, common interest leads to frustration and ethnic cleansing.

The idea that human beings are going to unite around everybody being human beings.

That takes more faith then being a Christian.

Since it has never been done anywhere on earth at anytime.

Afeni, using your own logic, what makes you think that ODUDUWA Country would be a viable state and not descend to civilĀ  unrest/war.Please don't tell me there not resentments in Yoruba land.
Remember that historically,Egba,Owo,Lagos and others gained independence from Oyo Empire.
What happens if Lagos wants to be an independent country, would you allow an escape clause in your new constitution?

How do you define "unity" anyway?  It's not about thinking alike, it's about interacting constructively.  That's all.

Unity has only been based on one sure thing --- we are us and they are them.

That's it.

The base connecting factor connecting people after the last 600 years is of course race.

Before the last 600 years, you might have found people united around the higher class of a society regardless of race.

but not anymore,

Jews & Blacks have been denied membership in the most prestigous country clubs in America, in the last 6 years.

So there is no unity of common purpose that simply having money allows you to enter.

In fact whites talk openly of how they are outnumbered by the colored folks of the world.

And how that is the most pressing issue that is upon them.

Aids really did not work as quickly and was not as deadly as they hoped. So they have to go back to the drawing board to concoct something else.

Plus only 10 percent of whites have immunity to AIDS, so they miscalculated badly that this disease would only affect people of color.

Let me post this because I know Africans like to think that African Americans are just making it up.

So I know you do not believe me, that AIDS was a disease engineered for Africans.

* African Americans were tested, and a few were found to have the CKR-5 gene -- but many times fewer than Caucasians. An earlier study of Central and West Africans had found no copies at all.
