Republic Of Dassa
« on: June 22, 2006, 11:12 AM »

The Republic of Dassa, named after the Yoruba kingdom in present day Benin, will constitute the Sates of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Ilorin, Edo, Western parts of Delta (Sepella and Warri) and Niger State.

The state will be a unitary republic that would be controlled by a parliament on the national level. The armed forces will be controlled by a minister of defense that is nominated by the Prime minister and approved by a 3/5 majority vote in Parliament. The Prime minister has legal right to suspend/permanently remove the minister of defense. Any violation of the constituitional role of the Minister of Defense calls for an immediate vote by the national assembly for his replacement, and in the case that such a vote is not possible in the immediate future, a temporary decentralization of power will be issue to regional commanders that are stationed outside of their region of origin.

Elections in the country will be held every 5 years to fill the 500 seats in the national assembly. Seat allocations will be determined by a percentage of votes. So, if the Dassa socialist party gets 20 percent of the votes, they are then alloted 100 seats in the Parliament that they are free to fill from members within their party rank. This way, all ideologies, ranging from socialist to libertarians can be well represented. Also, votings becomes more about politicals ideas as opposed to personality cults that is currently plaguing systems of democracy like Nigeria.

On the State level, a State Assembly of 100 will be elected and they will elect ministers that will run the affairs of the State. There is no governor on State level, or President in the national level. All executive decisions will be carried out by Parliament nominations on the national level, and State assembly nominations on State level.

All States are required to fund their own activities and pay a 30 percent tax to the nations capital. There will be no sharing of national resources or wealth in the form of monthly allocation like is currently being practiced in Nigeria. So, while the West Delta state might be overflowing with oil money, it is up to non-oil producing States to find ways to generate revenue.

The national language will be created out of present day Yoruba, Edo, Nupe, Ishekiri, Isoko, Urhobo and a little bit of Igbo to appease the eastern Immigrants that occupy Dassa territories.

Lastly, the flag will not have any Green, white, green or any other combination of those mentioned colors.  Cheesy

Afeni,
Man you are losing it!.You assume that non-yorubas want to join Dassa Republic.
What of a constitutional Monachy like the Uk,where all the Oba's and Kings are members of the upper house
How can regions, state control their resources if they live in a Unitary State? Unitary Decree led to 1966 Coup and Nigeria/Biafran war
Your bureaucracy is bigger than present Naija Govment
Flag,I completely support. All Islamic countries have green and white flags

You know, I didn't call it a federal Republic because they won't be any governors of States. Instead they get a house of 100 people that appoint ministers to carry out decisions.

Ok, lets assume that non-Yorubas don't want to join, that is fine. At least Dassa can constitute of Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo Western Part of Ekiti and Eastern part of Edo. While it won't be as big as before, it would still be something. And I am sure a few other minorities in the Western section of Nigeria will want to join. Truth be told, if the Nupes, Edos, Urhobos, Ishekiri and Isoko were given a chance between joining Dasa and remaining in Hausa dominated Nigeria, most, if not all, will choose Dasa.

One of the main reason Yorubas are regarded as cowards is because Hausas only allowed coward Yorubas to hold power. Abiola is a Yoruba and he was not a coward. If he was, he would have forsaken his june 12 victory in order to save his life.

Afeni,

I still think that as you propose a new republic, you should really reseach what the aspirations of other tribes are ,its not as easy as you think. Its easy to propose a new dawn if you have a common enemy i.e Hausa/Fulani/Nigeria.
In every state in Nigeria, including mine Rivers State there accusations of marginalization real and imagined. How do you propose to deal with these internal problems,
Do you deal with these issues before the dawn of the new country or after?
How do you deal with people who have sold out over and over again?

Additional States will be drawn (or maybe province since there is no governor). Now, don't get me wrong, anyone that wants to can stay with the Hausas and Fulani. I am not interested in forcing anyone to join. Like I have even said, if the Kwara Yorubas choose to stay with the Hausa Fulani, they can.

The only States that must join are the ones listed in the south-West geo political zone. And in most South-West states, there is very little agitation for zoning Governors to a particular local government. This is only a problem in States like Delta, Rivers e.t.c. that are lacking is a clear majority.
