There is no Niger Delta village where you can go, set up tripods, sniper rifles etc without the population finding out. . . . at best, it was an ambush at a rendezvous point. . . . which leads me to ask why the kidnappers will bring all their men and the hostage to the rendezvous point. . . . . the point is that Nigerian government officials do not want to be seen giving money to militants especially after the furore over NNPC, Julius Berger etc - so it profits them more to make up stories about snipers and targetmen. At best it was an ambush (which I am sure Mr Secretary would not subject his wife to). More likely, they paid the militants.

Is this art so difficult that our own police can't attempt it as some people believe here or is it just the name, sniper, that is confusing things? I bet you, Nigerian police and soldiers have men that are very good in this. There is nothing so special about being a sniper just that the name is not common here in Nigeria. But you'll sure hear about marksmen or sharpshooters in police circles.
This art is just not acquired out of thin air. It takes deep training, discipline and state of the art infrastructure. In a land known for prolificness in regression of its authorities, I wouldn't doubt if we can not achieve this art.

Big laugh at those that think those millitants are die-hard. Those boys operate base on information, and if no information from the Nigeria Force to carry out the guerilla attack, they will be killed like goats. Never you doubt the woman's story. Just as someone said earlier, being against what the woman narrated does not add or remove anything from you. Those idiots (millitants) were really killed.

I don't know why people are getting emotional just because I said the woman may be lying. . . . . . at the end of the day, it does not affect me either way. . . . . but I wonder, really really wonder why una dey vex say I talk say the woman dey lie. Abi, the woman na una relative?. . . . . like I said, if Oyinbo man with all their highly trained special ops cannot rescue their citizens from these kidnappers, then I doubt that Nigerian soldiers/police can. . . . ha

I am not very surprised that Nigerians are underating themselves. I laughed when I read some of those posts where fellas are shouting "na lie! e no fit happen for naija!!" That shows that we don't know what it takes to be in specialised military (or paramilitary) formation/unit. Being a sniper does not need all those 'specialised' equipment you watch in movies. The shot that killed JF Kennedy was fired from a Remington XP-100 fireball in the grassy knoll. You can google that gun to discover that it was/is not a sophisticated gun. Some even say it could pass for a pistol though with less recoil. Most rifles when equipped with good telescopic sight and manned by a personnel with good marksmanship, will bring down any man within range. It is high time we stopped all these imperialistic disposition. Many of us think nothing good could ever come out of this country. How would we progress with such mindset? When Dele Giwa was murdered in the 80's and the military was fingered, their quick response (which almost every Nigerian bought) was that the weapon used in killing him was too sophisticated for the Nigerian military. I believed them untill we were given graphical narration on how that bomb was developed by our own son, a nuclear physicist. Infact, he prepared it under house arrest in his village in Enugu state (though not knowing the purpose). Somebody mentioned that Nigeria has one of the best infantries in the world. It is not baseless. I don't know why but it goes with a lot of credit. What is there being a sniper? Perhaps, it is the nomenclature? don't you think all those game shooters could pass for amateur snipers? The story mentioned that one of the kidnappers was an undergraduate. That shows you the level of their naivity. Professional kidnappers would not let a woman menstruate without giving her pad or an improvise. For those sort of kidnappers, guys still in the sniper academy would not have to hold their breath when pulling the trigger nor require a spotter. They don't need to watch blood suger levels during preparation either! My people, it is very possible to bring them down as narrated. Shalom.

wait, everyone is going on about tactical commando bullshit (even though that story has k-legs) and didn't even think about this ,
If you are kidnapped, wouldn't your loved one do anything to get you back safe and sound? EVEN paying ransom. It seemed to me that the husband didn't give a shit if his wife lived or died. Assuming the whole Rambo thing is true, wouldn't you be terrified that your wife would be caught in the crossfire?

this is why the military has been able to rule Nigeria for so long. Nigerians underestimate them and ignore the fact that these guys receive top notch training from India, the UK and other countries. when a child provokes an elder, silence on the elder's part doesnt have to mean weakness.

Let me be frank, I would most likely be infuriated if this happened to my wife that I would have no intention of paying the ransom. I will only agree to pay the ransom as long as I can use it as a bait. The member of the gang or person that comes to pick the ransom would experience horrors that Saddam, Idi Amin, Bokassa and Stalin could not think of, if he does not reveal where she is or if any harm comes her way. Actually the dictators would beg and cry for him/her if they saw it. But in the first place, if I was rich and successful in the Niger Delta, with what is happening, my wife and kids would not be in that area. Half of the 10M in ransom you are paying can buy a fine house in Lokoja or Jos and pay for a nice school.

At least, he made an effort. He let her rot for almost three weeks!! Look I believe that these criminals in the Niger Delta should not be supported and I'm glad that she lived (despite the psychological trauma) but this is evident of a larger malaise in this society. This belief that women are expendable. I'm sure he was already scouting around for a replacement wife.
If it was the other way round, walahi, he would be directing his wife to empty her bank account sharp sharp

Nigerians and their Delusional Christianity, someone even says the (Church is the Place of Truth)-Bullshit, So we should we believe her story because she told it in church, When I know for a fact how many Nigerians concoct stories during testimonies ,I don't know who they are trying to impress. No wonder the white man has dashed religion to us so that we can continue to fool ourselves. With all the Christianity in this Country, Nigeria is still thrash. That Politician is just trin to rail road people abegh.

It is very sad that most nigerians are pessimistic about nigeria. Yes its true that most things don't work in this country, and there are ranks in the nigerian force police and army that wouldnt risk their lives. The truth is that Nigeria has such brave and capable persons in the force. I have a friend who is a soldier, he is a sniper, thats what he specialise in. He has gone to combat in 4 african countries, and recently he went on training course outside the country.
I don't know why it pains some nigerians to hear any good news about nigeria. Besides what would the woman gain by lying?? Please Ibime tell me that recent reports of gun duels between naval patrols and millitants which have resulted in death of at least 24 millitants is a lie. But when they kill soldiers its true. Go and check Nigerian soldiers are about the best in africa. Everyone knows it only u.
