How To Eliminate "Runs" (corruption) in our Universities
« on: September 03, 2005, 05:03 PM »

Runs? Why do students believe much on it? {What are] the advantages and disadvantages?

Nigeria is so corrupt that anywhere you turn to you find corruption there.

Take a look at our universities, full of indecent act all in the name of education.  Runs, yes "runs" is what it's called in our universities today.  Even in primary school, bribery and 'runs' is the talk of the day.  You'll find a student with 3 pass in O Level getting addmision in the university.  Why?  Runs, runs answers it all!

How do we eliminate "runs" in our universities?  Your opinion counts a lot.

To eliminate runs in our educational system? Good to put it that way.

It is a collective responsibility.
The government, students, lecturers/teachers and the students.

Govt. should do more and allocate at least 15% of their budget to education.
The salary of the workers in educational system should be upgraded and their welfare must be taken care of.

Parents must train their children morally and encourage them to be serious in school.

And the students have got to behave and work harder.
Our educational system has fallen, not what it used to be.

Those lecturers disturbing our female students should be shown a way out.
Cultism is another problem we have not addressed at all.

I will soon post it now so that we can discuss it in this forum.

My sister our govt. knows these all but they won't address these issues.

How many of their children schooling in Nigeria here.

they are there in US, Europe e.t.c

It's the common men that bear the brunt.

Now, they all want to have their own private school when they have castrated the public school.

Babangida, Atiku, Obasanjo e.t.c have their private schools now.
Primary, secondary and University.

No poor man can dream of going there why?
Where will the school fees come from?
It is the school of the rich and for the rich.

Eliminate? I think we should start by reducing it. I 2nd what GP said. It's all our responsibilities to see to it.

1st things 1st, start with yourself. Tell yourself you'll say no to corruption from now on and pass it on to someone else.

the nigerian standard has so greatly reduced that people take things for granted,
Look at the economy situation of Akwa ibom state the just impeached ex /former deputy gov of akwa ibom state
he got impeached because of his morall  act and love for money that is to say that as long as we nigerians continue to be lovers of money things will not work out smoothly for us  the saying money talks bullshit works is what we all believe in where as we also know that the rich also cries.
if nigerians today could shun pretence and go for the reall thing l think it will serve a great deal because most of us today pretend to be caring when we r not like our govt we make sevral promises that we can not keep.

"Runs" has been in the universities long before we got there.
All personal efforts to stop it has proved abortive, what can we do but keep waiting ....

The problems is beyond "runs". runs is any school/college in the world.

In a broader sense, to turn around the rot in the educational system, my ideas:

1. Have students assess (anonymously) their lecturers after the end of each semester/course; use this in annual the evaluation of lecturers
2. Have colleges collaborate with private sectors, - on research especially. Research means more money; this trickles down
3. Give colleges more autonomy
4. Colleges should look for extra income/fund, back to research again...sell services to the public
5. Institute autonomous security armed forces to fight cultism
6. Increase funds to colleges
etc

Moving nigeria forward
« #13 on: September 08, 2005, 12:02 AM »

MOVING NIGERIA FORWARD.

Nigeria as a nation is a very large country with
divers tribes, cultures, tongues and religions.
With its constantly exploding population, there is
bound to be an increase in job scarcity, high rate of
crime and other social vices.
With the heavy cross this present government is
carrying in striving to make her citizens look well, I
strongly believe that when you are doing a night vigil
prayer for an unrepentant sinner, your prayer will
definitely never cross the root of that room you were
doing your vigil talk less of ascending to heaven.
In the case of our country Nigeria, it is very
important that our beloved leaders should first of all
stabilize our economy. Trailing the part of truth. I
must let you know that I believe the government have
started to work out this part, by first of all
privatizing most of the government owned
firms/companies calling our foreign bodies/countries
and sensitizing them with virtually 0% of tax to come
and invest in Nigeria. You can agree with me weather
you like it or not that Nigeria is the first country
in the whole world to do this. I am yet to hear that
Nigeria is trying to or packaging to deport Swiss
citizens or Libyan citizens or other foreign
nationals.
In our government effort to stabilize this, there is a
strong need for our government to device ways/means of
keeping this growing population of the youths busy.
You can agree with me that the appearance of any
Nation first of all shows on the faces of its youths.
With this, we the members of N.G.O (Lookwell truth
organisation)L.T.O are of these opinions:  the
government should strive and abstain her youth from
taking to crime. Create handcraft tutorials that
comencies three day from every school calendar
holidays, therefore giving them just three days brake
form normal class activities for practicals.
With this method of learning, you can see that the
youths who are usually use to course fracas or some
kind of unrest will start having something to do with
themselves as most of their handy youths might have
gotten themselves used somewhere in one thing or the
other.
Our teachers from the lowest to the highest level of
institutions of learning can also be made to be busy
during the holidays by helping out during the
handcraft lessons. Where as they can be getting at
list half their normal salaries.
Our government should also create an agency that will
monitor violence in all parts of the country as in the
case of (NAFDAC, ICPC, EFCC) etc. with this sort of
agency having location in virtually every quarters of
the nation, you will see that perpetrators of violence
will start struggling to at least look important. Such
agency, I suggest, should be called violence control
agency (V.C.A.).
With the set up of such agency, the youths or
individuals thinking of any form of disturbance will
really have to think twice and simply be in their toes
as in the situation of a hawker sitting a tax force
officer. With regards to this issue of handcraft
lessons, government should create a system where by a
day or two will be set aside during which our youth in
each state will have to exhibit his or her product in
a fair or school ground. This I believe will create a
sample of being alive in the life of the guardians of
these youths and also a pride to the child involved.
This I believe will create interest that has slowly
been drifting away in our educational system. Such
exhibition should be organized as schools trade fairs
where by each class puts on display what
things/product they were able to produce during their
handcraft lessons. You can see that with this sort of
thing being organized in schools/universities in
starting the new term, you can imagine the joy that
the youths will be coming into the term he with you
will also see that with this sort of programs in the
schools of learning. It will be made easier for our
kids to chose their field of trade in life and also
make geniuses out of them.
Also in, moving our country forward, our government
will have to create a choice system kind of prison in
Nigeria.
This kind of prison system will have to be a prison
system where a prisoner or a convict have to be
allowed to chose the kind of prison type he or she
will like to serve. These terms will vary from
farming, officer, panel beating, etc. Any public from
police to public officers found and convicted, for any
kind of offence bribe or commit any kind of offence
must be made to serve the government in any of his or
her choice trade prison.
With this system of fair punishment you will notice
that we will have food on our table, serious human
beings as citizens value of self and fellow citizens
who are saying they have not seen the dividend of
democracy. When one or two of their relations are
producing food somewhere in one farm land or the other
as a prisoner, that will serve as a direct dividend to
them I believe any doctor found or caught doing
abortion, nurses taking away hospital drugs/child
trafficking, once such people have served the Nation
in one field or the other, that I believe will be
termed the real youth service for every one found
guilty of offence.
This I believe will help our police like other public
servant to have less work, be more purposeful, and
have virtually an empty prison yards.
The police will not be exempted from youth service as
that will also increase their intellectual perception
and help them to know that their intelligence is not
in their guns.
Moreover our government should also make it compulsory
that every school from the lowest to the highest have
in their time table, computer classes  as this will
steer our youth s faster and close into the world of
technology which is the main in all places now.
Government should create a pass that will be helping
investors and invention.
The look well truth organization (L.TO), will have to
be empowered to check mate thurgery/violence in our
present day Nigeria etc.
