it amuses me how the same Asari Dokubo tends to want an ijaw nation and you are here talking about souths survival, infact lets face it squarely on the six zones and then we will see who survives and who doesnt survive! its a ahame you are talking about rice,so thats all you eat in your house abi? the recent body language from the north shows they no longer care about anyones ox.
talking about land lock, doesnt rivers benue and niger pour into the delta? and if the south refuses the dredging, can't it be done through river benue via the cameroun route?
how many of the solid minerals in this country are actually being tapped? and which region has it most?
Those reasons you highlighted and others are enough for the North to leave this insulting southerners and do it on their own. Let's stop educating ourselves how important the North and less-important the south is the fact is IF THE NORTH IS REALLY WHAT YOU'RE PAINTING TO BE, LET IT STAND ON IT'S OWN AND LET'S SEE WHO SUFFER. No cause for argument on this

and if i may ask you who is actually stopping the division of nigeria? cause obj just ruled for 8yrs and nothing has happened.
it was not just the northerners that fought the ibos,it was the rest of the country(in plain english every body stopped the ibos)
so if anyone wants to leave be my guest or don't you know how to start? go and ask ojukwu!

unlike the oil money which the north freely gets without doing anything for it or helping in any way, the 87% of food sourced from the North is PAID FOR, so what exactly is your point?
Trade will continue between North and South if there is a split, but there is no doubt that the North is greatly impeding the growth and development of the South. The Abuja you live in is built solely on oil money from the south, so even that would not exist without the oil.
The people stopping the division of Nigeria are from the North, along with a few collaborators from elsewhere. Take case in point - when the political reforms conference by OBJ was under way, and the South South wanted 25% derivation, the higher number of states from the North (19) used their 'bloc vote' to defeat the motion by the South to increase its share of its OWN resources.
Simply speaking, the lopsided nature of the federation gives the North higher say in the running of the country due to higher numbers, unfortunately so.

and modern lagos built by gowon with what, let me see ooh oil! no wonder you guys keep saying south instead of south south, south nwest or south east. is the north also spending rivers monthly allocation? @ Dranoel The people stopping the division of Nigeria are from the North, along with a few collaborators from elsewhere. Even though I have many reasons to wish the North be separated from the South, I do not think it would be just in the long-run. What Nigeria needs is serious reformation. The South has her problems too. However, the North is still decades behind the South in terms of a very important resource - skilled manpower.
Northern leaders should start thinking like Kamal Ataturk of Turkey. Deemphasize the role of religion in government (this does not mean interfering with people's right to practice their religion), and encourage education and modernization. This was how Turkey was transformed from the old-style Caliphate system of the Ottoman Empire of yesteryears to the modern industrialized powerhouse state it is today!

I tell you this, Nigeria will be better off if every state manages it's resources, and provides a qouta to the fed govt. either that or Nigeria dissolves into six regions. The north over time has lost it's essence, the depend heavily on revenue from crude oil, without it they will surely suffer economical, political and social crisies. not just the north every state except from lagos. Lagos is the only state that can be self sufficient. There's one thing I know as long as we continue like this Nigeria will grow at a very slow rate, the vision 2020 will never be realised. We need true federalism thats the way out to growth and development. God help us.

Its sad how most southern contributers on nairaland have come to symbolise the north as everything bad. A southerner is married and no issues,oh lets blame the north, obasanjo steals money, lets blame the north, nddc chairman burns 270million in a cementary, lets blame the north, ibori steals money lets blame the north, neap takes light, letsa blame the north, anenih doesn’t fix benin-ore road,oh lets blame the north,a southerner arrested for drug peddling, lets blame the north,HABA!
I’ll would like to look at some of these issues
Asari dokubo (of all people) stands up to call people parasites! How? Asari as I know is the epitome of laziness and the new symbol of any man who at 40yrs is stilling living with his parents and collects weekly allowance or how else can you explain who stands on a piece of land and takes up arms because oil is found there(which he knows nothing about its formation or did Asari plant oil in the delta?).how can he be calling some one who actually farms or some one who is rearing cattle (even if he is a herdsman he is actually working) a parasite? Will any sane person call a man who is toiling the soil for food lazy and then say the one who stands and says “aah theres oil in my land” hardworking? For me this is a more or less the case of a lazy brat waiting for inheritance money period! The people of texas and Norway regardless of the abundance of oil in their land have found better and useful things to do with their lives. There is oil in your land so what? The land is polluted so what? Is it more polluted than Hiroshima? Should the people of Hiroshima resign themselves to faith? Haba Asari do something meaningful with your hands and lets see if anyone will collect it from you. A state like delta is collecting twice the allocation the whole of north east is collecting and yet they can't develop a population of 2million! Aint that a shame? So without oil they cannot develop abi? If so thy are worst than the northerners they so much hate!
The north will suffer with out the south. Anyone who nsays that is an ignorant fool who needs a brain check! Go to federal statistics office and check the records. The north produces only 8% of its estimated food capacity, the south on the other hand gets about 87% of its food needs from the north. Now tell me if Nigeria should split wouldn’t the south be importing food from the north? If yes,do you think the tuber of yam you buy at say 250naira will still be sold at that amount? The answer is no,oil money will be used to buy food(hope you guys read about the world food crisis) more like iraq, and guess who will be the beneficiary! Nigeria nay the north has the capacity to feed the whole of Africa and much more. Necessity is the mother of inventions, take away oil and you will see food!. And talking about parasite, you get 87% of your food needs from someone you are calling a parasite.funny.
The north is an arid land. Yes sokoto, kano, jigawa e,t,c but there is also benue, taraba, kogi, nasarawa, plateau, southern gombe, southern adamawa, kwara, bauchi, niger and southern kaduna, are these areas also arid? And has it occurred to the southerners that these areas joined together are bigger than the whole south in terms of landmass? As for those comparing the north with chad and niger these countries are completely arid unlike the north.
The north contributes nothing to VAT because of sharia and alcohol blah blah blah. Lets be a bit objective here. Using statistics, the people of benue, southern kaduna and plateau (jos) consume alcohol more than any part of the country yet some one will say because of sharie ban on alcohol the north contributes nothing to VAT. It is a well known fact that the hausa stock are amongst the worlds biggest smokers yet they don’t contribute to VAT abi? Recharge cards, fuel e,t,c is only sold in the south abi? Come to think of it dangote is the biggest employer of labour asides government yet the north contributes nothing abi? HABA!
Nigeria”s bad image! Aah aah what has this got to do with the north?if anyone looks down on you because of the green passport the reason is quite simple, southern prostitution, southern visa racketeering, southern drug peddling, southern yahoo(which is now glorified in their music), southern 419, southern forgery, and southern fellows who because of low self esteem leave their country in droves to become second class citizens in another men’s country! If things are so bad in the country why not stick around and contribute your own positive part? If Americans or the Japanese had left their countries in droves like that to become fishermen in others country will their country be what it is today?
You people should hold your peace and leave the north alone! If an individual does something hold the individual responsible and leave the north alone! Your governors are there,if you are so good develop at your own pace instead of looking northwards to apportion blame atleast that’s what Fashola is doing. Remove the log in your eyes before you struggle with the toothpick in another mans eye!
