It's simple people if we stopped going to their country and also start treating all their citizens in our country the same way there would be a good balance and they would be forced to change. I would simply say that our government has permitted the BS.

Yes, it is true that some Nigerians carry hard drugs. It is also true that NOT ALL NIGERIANS carry hard drugs. It is an issue of gross miscarriage of JUSTICE to punish the innocent with the guilty. The innocent Nigerian should not be disgraced or punished with the guilty. It is high time the Nigerian Government start the practice of ''an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'' to protect its citizens anywhere in the world. British citizens or any other country's citizens should be treated exactly as their government treats our fellow country men. An injury to one is an injury to all. An injustice to one is an injustice to all. This ill treatment of Nigerians will continue and may even go beyond all we have heared if the Nigerian government do not heed this call.

Anybody watching AIRPORT on Discovery Channel would actually see that there is an element of racism to this so called searches. Even when u hold the passport from their yeye countries, the colour of your skin alone is enough of an excuse to subject you to some unnecessary stress when going through the airports. There was this black woman with American passport who was detained on the suspicion that she looked like another woman prebiuosly refused entry in the the UK, after several hours she was eventually let through. The woman complained that she has recently been to several European countries ( Belgium etc) and was never refused entry, now we learnt that Immigration Authorities within EEC share information with each other, why didnt the Belgians "discover" that she looks like somebody previously deneid entry in to the UK. The truth is they were not comfortable with her presenting an American passport and thought she was probably impersonationg another. We must face the reality that some of these silent BNP admirer 'funfuns' would always jump at any opportunity to ridicule and discourage more of the monkeys from coming over to their country. How many of us have been subjected to one form of humliation or the other at foreign airports and only talked it over with friends and relatives, but for the women involved in this particular issue to have really come out to talk about it ( even in a state of anonymity) means the story is likely to be 98.5% TRUE

This report does sound very preposterous and I think it would be naive to swallow it hook, line and sinker.
Firstly, if one is singled out for a search by law enforcement officers (at least in countries where the law is upheld), be it in a public/private space), you have a right to question who the official is, why you are being searched and who has authorised the search. I find it very hard to believe that these women were unwilling victims of such indecent physical probing. Secondly, the aforementioned protocol should be followed and technological advancement means that your outer and inner physiology is clearly visible without an efficacious officer shoving their fist up one's reproductive system.
I may be wrong but seriously doubt it!

It’s funny that people are getting emotional over this topic. Also what’s happening is not racism but profiling. People might not like the idea of profiling but the truth is it does work. There is no way that customs official can screen every single person coming into the country; it will be time and resources prohibitive. But will a little bit of knowledge of what a drug courier will do, what countries they have been to, their demeanor or the way they behave, you can tailor your searches to people that fit that profile. Then as a way of checking that your profile is working, you’ll need to do random searches to see how many people your profile missed. Mind you, just because you fit a certain profile doesn’t mean that you’re concealing drugs; it just means that you’ll be searched thoroughly.
Assuming you were told that there’s a suicide bomber on the same plane as you. Who would you suspect…the Nigerians on the plane or the whites or the Arabs? Or you would not have any suspicion at all? I know I would be looking at the Arabs, then followed by the whites and skip most of the Nigerians. People from certain countries are notoriously known to engage in certain illegal activity but that’s not to say other countries don’t engage in the same activity.
The bottom line is that the lady fit the profile of a drug peddler and as such was justly searched. It is neither racism nor tribalism but profiling and it works. Also, there are X-ray machines that can show foreign substances in your body, I just don’t know if they work as well as visual inspection.

This is really dehumanizing and i don't think it is the fault of those officials but what is the government of our nation doing to forestall such occurrence in future. The formal dispensation disguised that it was repairing and redeeming the Nigerian image in the outside world,is this supposed to be the result of that?Something has to be done fast, although it doesn't affect people at the corridors of power much since they are equipped with diplomatic documents, but those who live in glass houses should learn how not to throw stones, my people usually say that "that which is affecting or killing one's fellow is actually an indication of events that might likely befall one too".

A cavity search is not punishment, it's exactly what the term suggests. The customs and immigration officials of the world can not be expected to pussy-foot around the drug / illegal immigrant issues, just to spare the feelings of a few.
were those puns intended Siena? get over it - people get searched all the time, its not a big deal. You now want to turn it into a racial/Nigerian issue - was she beaten up or denied her rights? If you do not subscribe to the screening, they hold the sovereign RIGHT to deny you entry - simple! Entry into the UK or any other country for that matter is a privilege not a right, as long as you are not their citizen. We should stop hyperventilating over nothing - she was strip searched and started crying? She should direct her angst at her fellow Nigerians who have messed things up for others.

Stripped Naked by British Officials
I feel bad having to read this dehumanising treatment meted out to our citizen in this time and age. Do we really blame these god-damn Brittons? I guess not. If we have responsible government in place back home and things are working the way they should,no Nigerian will ever want to leave his/her country for another country and be treated in such way.And even if one travels and such is attempted, knowing fully well that you are not on a survival trip abroad, you will have the gut to bull-shit them and even create scene. But one wonder how long such ladies have being sleeping in the embassy to get the visa and how many times she has fallen into the hands of fraudsters in a bid to secure visa and now she is expected to decline being searched and risk deportation. It is dificult. God will never forgive our leaders that have render us so useless that even countries as poor and small as Cameroun will mess us up without any apology. Many of us heard what Ojo Maduike said sometimes ago concerning Nigerians in prisons abroad over minor issues that he care less about them and that he does not know why they are running away from their country. Such is the type of leaders we put in our sensitive positions of Authorities. God saves Nigeria from their hands. Bunch of incompetent fools.

This is sad, but we can’t continue to talk about it and blame everyone about things. We have the tradition of making nothing… with the exception of noise! it happened to this ladies and it can happen to the rest of us or our mum's, sisters, wives e.t.c. I started out being bothered with myself, but after going through the thread I realized this will be horror for me if any woman I knew closely was subjected to this. I guess this has happened to a lot of our women already, I can see a lot of us are concerned but we blame the Nig govt, the British govt, the British people or the customs officers or immigration officers. It is time we started to be proactive let’s do something about it in this forum you can tell by the quality of postings we have different professionals talking here. Let’s start to suggest solutions and stop talking about the problems let the lawyers on this thread advice us on next steps let the activists gather us …let the social networkers harness the power of the internet and bring this to the whole world. Even Seun has become a very powerful person in this country or world sef. See who he can reach so easily. Everybody here doing a little thing can actually contribute to the bringing down of this degradation of our women/people. Let’s act. Let’s take them by surprise. Let everyone not just talk about this problem but also post a suggestion. Who is in the Nigerian govt? Is it not us? Who is in the police? Why do we talk about govt and all this other guys like they are not us? It’s as if it’s Nigerians versus govt.

UHM, well, well, well, when you go write post-jamb for Unilag, without them stripping you naked, the way you are search is just like stripping you naked, so i really don't see what is wrong with the search as far as it was a woman that carried out the search. With the name Nigeria, and maybe the girl's name sounded like a Yoruba actress's name. that might have caused the extra-length of search they did. Too bad but what can those wishing to travel by all means do? bear it!!!!
