BRIEF HISTORY OF ISSELE-UKU
As chronicled by Prince Chris Afumata Akeh- Osu in The History of Great Isi-Ile-Uku (Issele-Uku) Kingdom
Isi-Ile-Uku, “Issele-Uku” Kingdom was founded by the Binis in about 1230 AD by Oba Eweka 1 of Benin Empire and first Ogie of the kingdom was Prince Uwadiaie who was the second son of Oba Eweka 1.
The original name of the new kingdom carved out of Benin Empire “Isi-Ile-Uku” signifies relationship with the Benis and Oba of Benin-City ‘Uku akpolokpolo Omonoba n’edo’.
When Oba Eweka 1 created the new Benin outpost of Isi-Ile-Uku now pronounced Issele-Uku, his main objectives was to check and stop the influx of the movement of people from East of the River Niger, and people from Igala land into the Edo land West of the River Niger, for farming and fishing operations. Also to use Isi-Ile-Uku, the new outpost and kingdom, as a defensive outpost to the Benin Empire and moreover for expansion purposes.
Prince Uwadiaie, the second son of Oba Eweka 1, was crowned Ogie ‘King’ by his father Oba Eweka1 of Benin Empire about 1230 A.D. and sent to rule the Bini new kingdom of ISI-ILE-UKU in company of a group of Binis, worriors, administrators, chiefs and other princes of the royal family of Benin from Ogbe, Ehaekpen, Idumu Inaleibiwe, idumu Igun, Idumu Iken, Idumu Isama and Idumu Ugboka. Members of the royal family of Benin were settled at Ehaekpen of Issele-Uku. These Bini quarters – Ogbe and Idumu are now called Isheakpe, Ogbidibo, Idumu-Inele Ebigwe, Idumu Uzu, Idumu Ikem, Idumu Ozoma, Idumu Onishe, Idumu Ihama, Idumu Isama and Idumu Edemoka “Umu edomoka” at Ogboli. The present language of the people of Issele-Uku has changed slightly the original pronounciations.
The Oba of Benin in the days of old had real suzerainty over the kingdom of ISI-ILE-UKU. The new kingdom of ISI-ILE-UKU was gladly hailed in Benin then as an Eastern extension of Benin empire. In fact, the kings of ISI-ILE-UKU have paraphernalia and relics of kingly office as the Oba of Benin and performs the same yearly festival – Ugie ro ‘Oba – “Uje ine Aho Obi” at Issele-Uku.
The kings of ISI-ILE-UKU “ISSELE-UKU” are the true representatives of the Oba of Benin in the area lying to the West of the River Niger and as such the Obi “king” of Issele-Uku has a position of authority as the oba’s authentic representative in the Eastern extremeties of the great Benin Empire
The custom and tradition of Benin is the same at Issele-Uku and the influence of Bini language can be noticed or traced in the Ika-Ibo language of the people of ISI-ILE-UKU “ISSELE-UKU”.
The Oba of Benin continues to crown the Obis of Issele-Uku until presently when he sends Chiefs to officiate for him on the crowning of any new Obi “king” of ISI-ILE-UKU “ISSELE-UKU”. Although the Ika-Ibo Language predominates at Issele-Uku nowadays and it was due mainly to the fact that there were more interactions with the later Ibo founded towns around Issele-Uku than Benin-City which is situated a long distance away.
the language shows more of an igbo town with a few or non intaraction with benin, I''si Ile uku'' very funny , that reminds me of ''Ide mu du wa'' as oduduwa.

If you are calabar, efik, delta, asaba, you are all Ibo's and all these poeple should go and ask their fore father's how they can to exist in that area, Ibos gave them those lands for shelter decades because they were all slave minorities that were seeking for shelter and we gave them those swampy areas. GO AND ASK YOU GRANNY'S THEY WILL TELL YOU, THEY ARE ALL IGBO'S LET BIAFRA REIGN AND SEE IF THEY COMING OR NOT.

However, watch your Cameroon border, unless you want to exit Nigeria only to become part of Cameroon. That's a totally different cup of tea. so all those people were slave minorities? I'm getting a lot of amusement here today.

Stop making useless noise!! You keep proving to us over & over again, that all the money spent on your education was just worthless. Get a life and do something useful for a change, instead of belly-aching all over the place. As for being welcome, I suggest that you carry yourself out of here. Last time I checked, you were not the owner of this website, neither were you a common shareholder. *Hiss*The owner of the website comes from the tribe that you love to hate! Have you forgotten??

This topic has exposed the kind of ignorance, self hate and opportunism associated with the Ukwuani and Ikwerrel. In the first place those that claim they are Ibo but not Igbo are the biggest fools on earth because both Ibo and Igbo refer to the same people.
A little look at history will expose the opportunism and primitivity of those who presently deny their identity. Before the war when the Igbo was high and mighty all those Ikwerre and Ukwuani now denying their Igbo identity were running around claiming Igbo. Indeed most of them fought on the Biafran side, but as soon as the war ended and the Igbo lost, we started hearing these funny noises of i am not Igbo from the Ikwerre and Ukwuani. Nobody should forget that the leader of the January 1966 coup described as an Igbo coup which led to the civil-war Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu is from present day Delta state.
This exposes the opportunism of the whole thing. The day an Igboman becomes the president of Nigeria don't be surprised to see these bastards currently denying their identity turning around to claim Igbo. That is Nigeria for you.
Truth is; the Igbo does not need the Ukwuani nor the Ikwerre for anything. They are tiny insignificant minorities consigned to just a few local governments. Besides both the Ukwuani and Ikwerre people are a lazy bunch who are not at all industrious. The Igbo definitely does not need such bunch of useless idiots. Crude oil will dry up sooner or later, when that happens the Ikwerre will become totally useless and insignificant.
The bonafide Igbo should separate totally from both the Ikwerre and Ukwuani.Marriages between the genuine Igbo and these opportunists, betrayers and backstabbers should be banned. All genuine Igbo must not give any helping hand in whatever form or shape to anyone from Ukwuani or Ikwerre. It would be better to help an Hausaman than to help a backstabbing Ikwerre or Ukwuani.
The Igbo are a proud, industrious and hardworking race which produced the likes of Dr Nnamidi Azikiwe who pioneered the struggle for independence without which the Nigeria we know today would not have existed. Chinua Achebe the father of modern African literature, Dr M.I. Okpara, Cardinal Francis Arinze the man who almost became Pope,Olaudah Equiano, and numerous other illustrious sons in sports, entertainment, science and other spheres of human endeavour. We are too proud a race to be involved with some stupid nonentity insignificant minorities in a shouting match on wether they are Igbo or not.
Even the mighty British contended with the Igbo when they held sway in Nigeria. We know our history, and inspite of the setbacks caused by the civil-war we know our place in Nigeria. It is not for nothing that Abuja international airport and the 500 Naira note carries the image of Dr Nnamidi Azikiwe.
Finally my genuine Igbo brothers and sisters stay away and if possible don't even talk to anybody from Ukwuani or Ikwerre they are dangerous and cheap opportunistic backstabbers, you are better of making friends with Nigerians from other ethnic groups.
Kantochukwu.

If it is not this Igbo against one ethnic tribe it is the other Igbo against another Igbo Ibo . Honestly, I am getting sick and tired of all this Igbo this and Igbo that crap. Can't we all be proud of all our unique tribes without trying to put down another tribe. Seriously, this kind of environment does not favor unity or progress

What some people outside igboland fail to realize is that no two communties in Igboland speak exactly thesame dialect.Take my hometown Ihioma for example. We are in Orlu LGA Imo state. The standard Igbo word for (now) is "ugbua".We call It "Wee" Orlu town calls it "udu".We call "lie" "egheleghe" while the standard Igbo is "asi".Infact if someone from my town speaks our pure dialect ,no other Igbo would interprete.Anyone interested can check Orlu on the map.It is right in the heart of Igboland and shares no boundary with any none-Igbo.

Y'all,
Please read the following books. Present day Nigeria provided about 30% of the Africans for the Transatlantic slave trade. I am amazed that Nigeria's educational system does not teach this important history that lasted about 300 years.
Dreams of Africa in Alabama by Slyviane Diouf Avenger: the Story of the Haitian Revolution by Laurant Dubios Exchanging Our African Identities by Michael Gomez.

my own definition of an igbo. . . any one whose father is igbo and who agrees that he/she is igbo. also, anyone whose mother is igbo(even if the father is not igbo) and he/she wants to be identified as igbo is an igbo. anyone, who does not identify himself/herself as igbo, even if the persons parents and all the ancestors are igbo, that person is not an igbo by my definition. even if the person is born in igboland and bred in igbo land, speaks igbo fluently but does not identify as igbo is no longer igbo. period. i am igbo. thank God

Umubiafra! do not late any body waste your valuable time in this phoney forum own by ofe akwu man to stair up something. Do not get involved in this kind of cheap talk, our time is just too good for this. The fact is that any body that is heating on us is actually wonna be us. We cannot change the fact that God made us special. Every body heated the Jews just like us because they were mad special. What ever we touch turns gold, the devils are scared to deal with us because anyi ji ofo aga. I will tell y'all a story that many of us share. I am a guy who finished primary school after which I went to the Northern part of Nigeria to serve my brother for five years. After that I moved to Lagos to do my own little spare part business for two years then later bailed out to Europe. Today, I have a Dutch secondary school diploma in Export, two years hnd diploma in Business, Bachelors in international business and now first year student in Master's for Financial Management. This took 10 years to achieve through which there no room for excuses not to take care of my family back home. I have been to home 3 time by the way! Does any body remember Ojukwu's speech on Biafra achievement within three years of war which include refining oil, building missiles etc. I am not trying to brag, I do not consider myself to be smart because there are some of our brothers over here with the same struggle that are almost finished with mush higher academical achievement than I. I guess that my point is thank God if you have igbo friend because he or she will help you in any way necessary find your place in this world. If you are igbo then boy you should be damn proud of your self. Defending igbo is like spitting on our heroes grave. People know us and they recognize and that is that!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An7IZBBATTM&feature=related this for my three uncles that die for the plight! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOjoemi_kKshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS5nbRJhOyw&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiZozFgBoVwumu nnem gisi enu ike.
