While there has been a proliferation of discussions in which differences between Nigeria's many ethnic groups have been amplified, fair and open minded comparison might actually reveal that we have much more in common than we are often aware of.
The purpose of this thread is to create a forum in which the common elements of our varied cultural heritages can be celebrated, be they religious, linguistic, historical, mythological etc. etc.
Did you know for example that as much as we think of ourselves as having nothing in common, many Yoruba and Igbo words actually stem from the same linguistic roots?
For example:
Masquerade: Egwugwu (Igbo); Egungun (Yoruba) Come: Bia (Igbo); Wa (Yoruba) Malaria: Iba (Igbo); Iba (Yoruba)
Some even say that Orisa and Onitsha have some linguistic link. And how about Orisa (Yoruba) and Orise (Itsekiri)!
Lets put aside our differences for a cyber-minute and share what we know about what we have in common!
