Unless you have a mobile provider that doesn't charge for text messages, it will be fairly impossible for anyone to offer such a service without eventually going bankrupt!
Instead of looking for free mobile text alerts, why not just activate a WAP over GPRS service (Glo Direct, MTN Sights and Sounds, etc) on your phone and use it to browse news sites daily?

Or better still, subscribe for their newsletters at various news sites, using your Yahoo! email. Then you can check your Yahoo! email on your GPRS-enabled phone at anytime using either Glo or MTN GPRS>

Last week I joined a site that offers completely free text alerts called TxtVox.com. The service is awesome! I get free sports scores (after the game), free weather alerts, stock quotes, bible scripture and jokes. I think those are all I am getting, but they have like 20-30 other things you can get alerted about. Check it out, you'll be glad that you did!  |

That txtvob does not support Nigerian users. The field for entering your mobile number does not support internation numbers. So how you take register?  |
