Hello nairalanders,
I am new here, and have a question for you all especially the Igbos. I am a white woman from the UK and have been in a relationship with an Igbo man for about three years. I would like to marry him (although he hasnt asked yet) the problem is i am divorced and i don't know if his parents will allow it. Am i wasting my time with man, i have never met or spoken to his parents although he has talked about me going to Nigeria on holiday with him. Your thoughts and any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I think 3 years is long enough for someone to decide if they want to marry or not in a relationship. Why don't you ask him what his plans are about marriage? On the cultural side, though there may be initial resistance by the family, he can still have his way if he truly intends to go ahead with the union. Best wishes.

i agree with Echelon .3 years is such a long time to be in a relationship that is leading nowhere. Ask the guy, talk with him and see if hes even got any plans to settle down. One thing is sure here,IF hes truly bent on marrying you, your status or his parents can do absolutely NOTHING about it.trust me.Just pray and hope he is INTRESTED in the marriage stuff.

The number of threads on Igbo marriages and Igbos in general is becoming alarming ? From wanting to learn Igbo culture,to folks marrying Igbo mates. What is it about Igbos ?
@ poster you need not mention his tribe in order to get good responses to your question. Naturally any parents whether British, Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa would prefer their sons marry women who have not been entangled with anyone before (esp if you have kids from the previous relationship.) It's only natural to want that for one's son. But if he loves you, he should be able to convince his parents that you're the right girl for him.

The man is obviously not a small boy and if he wanted anything more from the relationship, he would have made it known.
I'm not sure but my thought is that he has something in mind which you don't know about.

I don't see this as an igbo man's thing but something that has to do with ur man himself. So just try to find out, if him and his family are kool with it all.
