Hunters found missing plane – C’River
By Everest Amaefule and Oyetunji Abioye
Published: Wednesday, 3 Sep 2008

Hunters found the wreckage of the Beachcraft 1900D plane in Busi, Obalinku Local Government Area, the Cross River State Government has said.

The finding, exclusively reported by THE PUNCH on Tuesday, puts to rest the controversy over the fate of the light aircraft which disappeared from the nation’s airspace on March 15, 2008.

A statement by Mr. Patrick Ugbe, the Chief Press Secretary/Special Assistant on Media to Governor Liyel Imoke, said the hunters recovered the international passport of the pilot, Captain Augustine Egbedi among other items from the aircraft.

its a pity we do not have a reliable emergency system, imagine u will see a 3 storey building burning and the only thing u will is just one fire truck lloking for where to get water from the nearest well or water source

Yeye people. They ve gone to manipulate one old plane and dump it at the site. The family of the crew should be visited to confirm they are actually missing, forensic inestigation must be carried out by a foreign expert to confirm that its the actual plane that got missing that was found and the puported remains of the pilot they found at the alleged crash site

Ibori has a hand in all these

I am with Tundysho on this one. This is just a case of the more you look, the less you see -- a ruse! You will see how Nigerians will believe this crap but does Nigeria's inept leadership give a flying rats a$$?? Abeg, next!  grin grin
Re: Missing Plane Found In Cross River: After 6 Months! by iukpe: 5:53am On Sep 04, 2008
This country will not cease to surprise me any day. After several months the plane is finally found.
Usual speculations follow from nairalanders. I hope its actually the plane. I hope the pilots body or any other crew were found too, not only passport-o! or photocopy of passport. If a plane crashed 6months ago it will be clear in the bushes around, broken branches and obvious mutilated vegetation.
Lets get an expert to tell us when the passport was made. How often do these hunters hunt in this territory. it must be they visit there 6monthly.
What of our TV stations, it must not be CNN, our cameras should go there.
At least thisdayonline reports ", as at noon yesterday, the team reported the sighting of two decomposed dead bodies from an aerial picture" shocked
Aerial picture is possible at the site after 6months, whow!
this brings questions to how sincere and detailed the initial search was. Maybe it was not properly funded, so as naija work also not properly done.
In any case this puts to light how incompetent and unserious we are or our agencies are in Nigeria.
6 months later we are still not sure of the truth. Afterall the committee investigating the crash is reported to have submitted to the presidency, stating that it was no longer possible to locate the aircraft. lipsrsealed cry
Re: Missing Plane Found In Cross River: After 6 Months! by wariowei(m): 6:15am On Sep 04, 2008
I think the FG or the aviation ministry needs to set up a CTU or Forensic investigation unit made up of hunters, fishermen, fulani cow rearers, native doctors (orubo), abrakatabralists, etc. What can I say? Since western technology cant help the situation in Nigeria, lets try local.
Re: Missing Plane Found In Cross River: After 6 Months! by Jakumo(m): 6:19am On Sep 04, 2008
Since no HUMAN remains were reported to have been found in the wreckage, here is my theory :

The owner of the plane was paying for it installmentally, and had been falling behind on payments such that bank repossession of the aircraft was becoming a concern to the debt-ridden owner.

In preparation for the big scam, all crew members on the fateful flight were instructed to take out life-insurance policies that would keep their families happy for the few years the crew would have to remain in hiding, while a substantial insurance policy was similarly taken out on the plane.

On the day of the flight, the crew boarded the plane wearing parachutes.  Airborne and flying over the thickest jungle they could find, the pilot flipped a switch to dump most of the remaining fuel in the tanks, and then he set the auto-pilot for the craft to fly straight and level until it ran out of fuel.   With that done, the crew jumped out and made safe paraschute landings in the border area jungles between Nigeria and the Cameroons, where they used a hand-held satellite phone to communicate with their welcoming party on the ground.

The plane crashed but did not burn since there was no fuel left in the tanks, and crew identification papers deliberately left in the cockpit served as red herrings to divert attention away from the fact that the crew were in fact very much alive and in contact with their families who by then were already enjoying the huge life-insurance payouts, while putting on a sad face for visiting press photographers.   The aircraft owner also cashed in his own insurance bonanza on the lost plane, and they all lived happily ever after.

My theory can easily be substantiated and conclusively proved if Nigeria1@ would now be kind enough to show us few dozen satellite pictures of copulating camels in the Iraqi desert.

At the time the report was filed, government officials had not visited the crash site, hence the sparse details.
