Its real depressing what's happening at the arsenal.AW has this terrible phobia for big name players and now he even has the backing of the dumb board (well Danny Fiszman for one). If you ask me,I think we need to real wake up and smell the coffee.Next season isnt going to be any easier than the past one, what with all the money following around in the EPL.Me honestly think if we don't invest in big players now, we will struggle next season too.It isnt too much for us die hard arsenal fans to ask for a solid defender (Micah Richards),Yaya Toure,Samir Nasri nd Karim Benzema!

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=112656Very interesting stuff, i hope those of us banking with UBA as old customers get good deals, not the normal trend of shanking the oldies, and rewarding the newbies I see a trend brewing here, what next Savanah Bank and Scum United Oh wait, i forgot!! Savanah Bank is distressed sort of like the soon to be dethroned Double Champs Imagine Darren Flecther has a Champ League Medal Can someone tell Hleb to just shut up and leave already, so that Nasri can sign up. And it seems Cesc is also re negiotiating his contract GOOD FOR HIM, HE DESERVES THE BEST DEAL!! But a bit worried that David Dein's son, Darren is his agent GOONER 89

UBA, Arsenal FC Strike Financial Services DealThisday 05.28.2008 The growing popularity of English Premier League among Nigerian football fans is yielding dividends, with the officials of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and Arsenal Football Club of England signing an exclusive and strategic partnership deal at the Emirates Stadium in London yesterday. The deal, which covers the West African sub-region, will see UBA collaborate on a variety of Arsenal financial services and grassroots football initiatives. UBA is reputed as the sub-region’s largest financial services institution while Arsenal, acclaimed exponent of beautiful football, is arguably the most supported club in Nigeria, The financial services deal includes co-branded electronic payment solutions such as debit and credit cards for consumers in all West African locations where UBA currently operates. UBA will also build football pitches for youth development across the sub-region, with the technical support of Arsenal which has a high number of African players in its team. At a press briefing at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, Mrs Angela Nwabuoku, Executive Director, Products and Segment Banking, UBA, said the partnership supports the bank’s commitment to developing grassroots football in Africa and the bank’s strategy to spearhead the use of electronic banking products on the continent. “African youths yearn for inspiration. They need to be inspired and given opportunities to nurture their talents and achieve their dreams of becoming successful football stars. This strategic alliance and other UBA football related initiatives will go a long way towards achieving this,” she said. The Commercial Director of Arsenal, Mr. Adrian Ford, said Arsenal has “successfully developed a number of similar commercial and technical partnerships across the world but this represents the club's first significant financial services partnership in the Africa continent”. He added: ''This partnership with UBA represents an exciting opportunity for us. We are aware that Arsenal has an exceptionally strong following in Africa and we look forward to working with the bank in the development of financial services and football at grassroots level. The partnership will enable us to develop a closer affiliation with our supporters and give many fans the opportunity to visit Emirates Stadium, receive Arsenal merchandise and win shirts signed by our first team squad.” The partnership will see UBA and Arsenal renovate pitches across West Africa, with 12 pitches in Nigeria to be laid with artificial surfaces initially. “This will provide a durable and lasting facility for local players and we'll also provide local support with visits to the region by our community coaches,” Ford said. He said discussions started a little over three months ago, joking: “Our courtship was short, but we are in for a long marriage.” UBA expects that the debit cards would be rolled out in West Africa within the next three months.

Arsenal to break transfer record for £16m Flamini replacement: Well worth the money if it’s true!\
Here is the latest story linking the AW with a transfer to break the long overdue record transfer of Mr Wiltord.
Portuguese international Miguel Veloso is according to reports the defensive midfielder Gunners boss Arsene Wenger seeks to replace the departed Mathieu Flamini with this summer.
“I do not know if this was my last game for Sporting,” £16m rated Veloso told reporters after Sporting beat Porto 2-0 in Sunday’s final. “Let’s see what the future holds for Miguel.
“England may be a good destination but I do not know anything about the offers.” (East London and West Essex Guardian)
22 year old Veloso would be a good replacement for Flamini and the major stumbling blocks for such a move would be; a) the price and b) the fact that Manscum are also said to be very interested in adding yet another Portuguese man to their playing squad.
So what d'you guys think of this latest "transfer rumour"

Arsenal Boss Wenger Confirms That Gunners Will Be Fully Active In Transfer Market - Big Names Expected Before EURO 2008
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he is fully aware that players need to be brought in during the summer transfer window to strengthen the squad, with the Frenchman looking to secure some big name transfers before the EURO 2008 Finals begin on June 7.
"I know what I want and I am very confident,” said Wenger. "I hope to turn that around in the next two or three weeks. The fans should be re-assured by what they see."
"It would be better to buy someone who has played in England because they are less risky, but it costs more money if they are from the Premier League - maybe I will try to do both."
"It doesn't look like we have no team and we have to build a team. We were unbeaten at home and that is only the second time in the history of the club. We have done that with young players who will be better next season."
"If we are winners we come back and do it and that is what I expect from my team. I think the big core of the team is ready to come back and fight, and that all of them are determined to come back and win.
"Like every big disappointment you have in life you go through a period where you have to swallow and digest it and think 'Where do I go from here? Do I feel sorry for myself or do I fight and do something different?'.
"After a while the players come together and there is a good togetherness in the squad. I feel they have created something special," finished the Gunners boss.
Hmmmmmmmmm, fingers crossed for the red-highlighted portion

please insert the source of your quoues, when you bring comments from other websites, you could be sued for plagirism, anyway nasri is 99% sure to join arsenal, he said that himself, and xpect more from arsenal after euro's, i don't want to listen to all this rumours, cause arsenal is linked to almost everyone at the moment, i only listen to the quotes from wenger, that's what i take into consideration.

I knew Hleb would start singing a new tune sooner or later - now that his ice-cream partners (Inter) are likely to employ JM as a coach - someone who would NOT take a player like Hleb on. Its now either Real or Barca left for him to secure a transfer toeither of which will cough up 10-12 million pounds for his services - not a bad deal spending the exact same amount of money to bring in Nasri . The Veloso rumours have been spreading since the last summer transfer season, there is no evidence whatsoever that he will come to Arsenal. On another note - here's taking a dig at Matty Flamoney for his exclusion from the France Euro 2008 team No Euros, no CL, poor MattyI guess he'll keep himself warm in bed with all the Euros he's getting from Berlusconi. Apart from the Nasri stories (impending arrival) and the usual Hleb bunkumery (he goes, he doesn't, he goes ) all is pretty quiet on the Arsenal transfer front. Heard we made a bid for Aaron Ramsey for 5m, but it was rebuffed. AW really wants this kid, so we might hear more about him in the next few weeks. AW needs to move decisively before the Euros IMO, unless afterwards any player we might want may become over-inflated. Gunner 1915

All seems quiet on the gunner frontI guess with lack of 'real' transfer news, there isn't much to go on about. I think we should start a discussion on who replaces Flamini in the starting line up for next season. From the way AW is posturing, I am not expecting him to buy any player to replace him - his comments were along the line of 'we have Denilson, Diaby and Gilberto who can all play in the same position'Some were suggesting even Song to play there, but given the last few games of the season he was played at CB, I doubt if AW is considering him for such a position. Lets start with Diaby - when he was signed from Auxerre, he was hailed as the next 'Vieira' tall, athletic and powerful. Injuries took their toll in the 06/07, and he largely suffered from niggling injuries and being played out left in 07/08. Despite that, he scored some great goals for us this term - with one or two screamers. 4 goals in 20 starts and 8 sub appearances - equal to the same number scored by Hleb in 39 starts and 3 sub appearances. (once again shows Hleb's value as a scorer) Given he was played out of position, I would say he had a decent season, but nothing close to spectacular - his main flaw in my opinion is that he holds on to the ball too long and loses it. Arsenal's game right now consists of short crisp passes, or intelligent holding of the ball and releasing it at the right moment. Diaby seems to dwell a little too long on the ball and often loses it annoyingly (like Hleb of 06/07 and part of 07/08) but he does seem to have lots of energy. He played one game in the 'Flamini role' (if i may call it that) and that was against Everton at Goodison. We did lose that game 1-0 but he really showed he has some potential to excel in that role - he has an eye for goal and a terrific shot, if he loses possession less and improves his distribution, he may just be the right player to line up beside Cesc in the middle of the park. He also needs to put in a full season free of injuries to be considered a permanent fixture in the side. I'll review the others over the next couple of days, fellow astute gunners are invited to give their opinions. Gunner 1915
