@ Constantine I would say that the reason that many people support France is that the team is made up exclusively of Black African players. It is the nearest thing you can get to Africa winning the World Cup  It is wrong to sumise that just because a team contains a few African players then Africans have to support them. That is a pretty racist view! 17 out of the 23 players in the French Team are of ethnic origin. There was much issue back in France with the native French that the side did not represent the Nation! The reality of any football competition is that only one team can win! Italy has won the cup fair and square. Let's not take away their moment of glory! That would be unfair! Zidane lost his head and has paid for his actions. It does not matter if something was said to him. At the end of a long, successful career, he should have known better! Even the French captain has attacked Zidane in todays newspapers! As for Francophone Africans not supporting France, why is this a surprise? just the same way that many ex-British colonies do not support England and are openly hostile towards the team. This is not suprising, I do not think that Just because the UK or France were in the cup that it is compulsory for Africans to support them. We are all free to support any team we like. Politics unfortunately plays a large part in peoples loyalties, but at the end of the day the best team won! Now we can take a rest for the next four years! Peace |

Reverend, But I didn´t understand why some francophone African countries (not all) do not support a French national team which is composed of "Afro-French" players. Sorry, it leaves me speechless. On the one hand, you are saying that this would be rascits if one does it, on the other hand you are saying that it is normal that one has to support a national team which is composed of players of African origin??? please hlep me to untwist that , some contradiction in it I do not want to give the names of the francophone countries which supported Italy against France but it is a hard slap in the face of the African players. They also would have won in the name of Africa, somehow, but some Africans do not realisze it and are overjoyed that Italy won. Well, we are free to make choices of our own as we live in a free world, unfortunately, but it startles me nevertheless. How can you bite off the hand that shows you "the fame to glory and fame"    I am still one the side of France, sorry: first, because many Africans played for them second, because they played fair third, because France is a beautiful country (great food, nice scenery, great wine, brilliant cities etc.) Peace to all |

Zidane's red card. Well it is a bad way to end his career in the national team. He did something that is not expected of a professional player of his calibre. A newspaper wrote about the red card thus ' the more you think of it (the headbut), the less it makes sense'.
However, Zidane has beeen awarded the best player of the tournament. Second position went to Italian captain, Cassavaro, third position to Italian Pirlo. It still a good consolation for the great Zidane.
