You know, when i was a lot younger, i used to read comics a lot. Superman, Mad Magazine, Batman, Tin-Tin all kinds. However, i really wish u guys the best o. then, we didn't have many alternatives and even television was strictly NTA. Now, there's the internet, cable tv and kids of nowadays just don't read anymore. They are more challenged by animated visual stimuli. How many adults read these days? Apart from newspapers, most adults don't read fiction, not to talk of non-fiction.
The photo comics might work, but you will really have to create a storm of awareness for your target audience. Then your content will really matter. People usually enjoy reading violence and sex these days. A creation like captain africa wouldn't sell right now. Even superman has been adapted into several motion pictures and the latest "superman returns" was pretty cool.
So, how are you actually going to get people to start reading again?

Question: How do we encourage reading? What can be done to stimulate reading materials that build the mind not just anything?
I have nursed a fear for sometime now - The Media especially TV and Radio have a strong effect on us and they shape our lives not necessarily the way we want. Though they provide relevant information it is a little percentage and before you get good stuff you would have watched anf listened to a lot crap. Meaning you mind would have had to feed junk before getting stuff. With reading at least I get a chance to choose the bookstore, the author and the title among other things. This gives me ability to choose carefully.
Except we find a way of returning to reading books in my opinion we are doomed- the next generation especially.

I think i agree. Funny thing is that youths of today can barely read, speak less of write. I'm not talking about those that go to private schools, but the majority that go to public schools. I have friends in the banks that can't spend 5 minutes reading a book (especially if it's not the newspaper). Fiction is completely out of it. Example: My favourite authors are Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum and I have all their books. These authors usually write books with a minimum of 500 pages and i can finish that within 3 days (though this depends largely on my work schedu)0 It couls take a month sometimes. Imagine someone seeing me with a large paperback and looking at me as if i came from another planet. The internet is both good and bad. i usually have to be online because my job dictates it. If i don't read and update myself, I lose track of my industry. But most people go online to commit internet fraud, chat or check out porn sites. They are either financially rewarding or visually rewarding. Without a visual stimuli, people are not interested in reading.
Maybe we should just pray for them.

Seun, The dogs acted better than the humans in the previous photocomics.
On reading. Nigerians will read if we encourage them to cultivate the habit.
Someone can read 500 pages of fiction on Nairaland without knowing it. A good example is the celebrated case of Papermoon. Most of us consumed the whole fiction and would have continued if not for the timely intervention of nemesis.
The most popular posts are cues for the reading tastes of most Nigerians.

Here's an example of the format I may be using for the printed comic (on A4 paper). Is it ok?
