Good one dams.

One question: It seems vray is good for arcitechtural renderings but not for
character rendering. Am I correct Dams? Also I know you use maya, I have never
heard that vray was available in Maya, so was it a stand alone software you used?

This was done with mental ray, I ve not seen a character rendered with vray yet.

As far as i know vray is great for all forms of renderings (character, architectural or otherwise, it has worked great for me so far.
Also were did u get the idea am i Maya person?,  i dabbled once but 3dMax is my core 3d program(which was what i used 4 d rendering with ray)

By the way your model is great, i love the character art style,

Oh! never knew you were a 3dmax user, wonder where i got that from.

But there is this feature called SSS - Surface Scattering, is this available
in Vray? I am sure Vray also does GI.

Men I tried to locate it via torrent to no avail. And when i finally got it from a pal, AVG Antivirus
shouted and wipec them  out as potentially harmful viruses.

The guys i work with dont wanna hear "crack", "toreent" or "computer village".
You know, the oyinbo mentality type. They have ordered it sha and I hope to copy it
from them, (if they are not worse than i thought),  but men it seems like a long wait.

I've been using mental ray in max prior to now, though i have always heard about vray and have been trying to get it for about 9 months now,I just got it this morning and it feels like it's just what i've been waiting for. This is the first rendering i came up with.I ve tried my hands on c4d,maya,artlantis and accurender but from the little i ve seen ,i think vray is d best.

Mental ray has sub-surface scattering aka sss. Also has some awesome materials like fast skin shader used to make realistic skin,to create the transparent layers of the skin as light passes through.I rather prefer painting the transperent layers in Photoshop or mudbox, flatten it and apply on a blinn shader.Painting specular map in photoshop can also simulate sub surface scattering.

Vray is also an awesome realistic renderer.

zpixel,

sorry 2 disappoint u vray is way behind, infact it is num 6 on the chart among order render engines.but not to worryposition dosent matter, d koko is knowing how to use it and sticking to one particular software

There s nothing disappointing in vray being the 6th render engine.what were the criteria used to arrive at this.post a link to the list so we ll all have an idea.all renderers have their strengths and weaknesses but i think vray is well above average

Guyz,
Modelled and rendered in maya. i wanted to try another renderer for interior rendering aside Vray. So i went for mental ray for maya. Learned alot along the way and  i also tried working in linear color space which gave me enough dynamic range to work with in photoshop. maybe someone should create 'mentalRay_Forum'  Wink

Nice work. I've not done an arch viz personally for a while so my eye for detail might be a bit off but here are my comments. I'd say your textures are letting you down. The work station wood especially keeps jumping out at me. But the main culprit is your outdoor pic through the window which is at the wrong perpective. Everytime I look at the picture it keeps breaking the illusion. Those are the points I can pick up on. Apart from that it's a nice piece of work. You've definitely got the technical eye for rendering.

@AdamuW
Thanks for the constructive crits. About the work station wood, i guess i got carried away with levels in  photoshop  Smiley Now that you've mentioned the wrong perspective of d outdoor window, its so obvious 2 me now. I really need to go study some arts  Sad
