October 1st Celebration In My Days
« on: September 29, 2008, 07:17 PM »

I was just wondering what happens in Nigeria nowadays on Independence day.
As a kid I remember we went to the stadium and marched in our school ceremonial outfits while saluting some government official
and when I became a girl's guideĀ  (Scout) I was proud to wear my blue uniform and flog the living daylights of trespassers Grin
who dared cross our line Cool

We would watch the police and army bands display their skills in beautiful uniforms.
We would see Atilogwu and Nkponkiti dancers,School choirs, even masquerades and war dancers.
We would buy meatpies, agidi jellof with biscuit bone, Ice cream and gala from street hawkers despite our parents' warning not to eat food from those vendors
I wonder what happens now at independence day.
I hear the" march passed" has been phased out so what took it's place?
