lolololol

actually last year I was kind of hoping they wouldnt release any new consoles so that games would still run on my crappy pc! :-P

I have the ps2 to thank for the fact that games from 2003-2005 didnt require a pc upgrade for a 2002-level pc!

Yep. its official AMD has bought/merged with ATI.
Wonder how this plays out. So this could mean intel could insist their chipsets are only coupled with Non-ati stuff or what?
don't know if that was a wise move, i mean, both companies haven't been able to establish dominance in each of their respective fields. nvidia is still *slightly* inthe lead and intel still is inthe lead over AMD.
as far as i know, seems like intel's dealing with AMD by making new, powerful chips as cheap as AMDs latest. Thus AMD can't play that cheap card again.
I'm just fed up with all the new changes sha. I bought an Intel Core Duo laptop just recently and now the idiots have just released Core 2 Duo. Guess which one is more powerful  Cry

Guess i'll wait until DX10 cards hit next yr before i build my killer desktop  Cool

Only thing good about an Ngage was the speed with which new games were ripped and placed online. Not sure i'd have survived my NYSC without it. Playing Asphalt Urban GT, splinter cell et al was a good way to pass the time.
Non-nintendo gaming Handhelds are jinxed. Look what happened to the Gizmondo,

way to go tp

ngage was the shiznit for cheap-ass downloaders

new game comes out, instant download

I was lucky enough to stumble upon an ftp that had like 90% of released games, close to a gig in size!!!!!!!

gaming heaven! sort of,

gizmondo was run by swedish fraudsters. karma killed it. anybody tried the linux handheld, GP2X? nice piece of hardware but it has no hardware-supported 3D renderer, bah. if i don't find a PSP 1.5, i'll have to cop this. retro games on the move. yes!

what i think is that AMD is try to compete with intel for the graphics market. intel dominates (yes, intel, not ATI, not nVIDIA) the graphics processor market largely due to their success with integrated graphics processors. these processors are what u commonly find in laptops (eg. intel gma 980). they are usually bundled with lots of specs supporting hardware T&L, pixel and vertex shader 3.0 etc. they seem impressive on paper but the truth is that they suck big time. ATI and nVIDIA also released some IGPs in the past but intel always win.

now AMD want to try and gain some part of the IGP market. this is bad news for next-gen games because the average guy always goes for IGPs and only the hardcore gamer spends cash on discrete GPUs.
game developers are leaning towards next-gen graphics but now they'll have to support the masses with the low-end IGPs to stay in business. this could result in games with low-end graphics in the future. so much for all the work the developers might have been putting into their next-gen engine.

reminds me. . . has anyone see crytek's engine. . . damn!

Crysis really rocks, man!
I Think Crytech are Czech or some other Soviet-bloc country like that. read up on them, these guys just came from nowhere, persuaded nvidia to let them show off their engine ( i think e3 2002) and that was it. The engine they showed off became Far Cry. I've been playing that game and i see why it won 2004 best pc game (gamespot).

I've got a bigger problem; I can't bring myself to play Doom 3. i'm ashamed to say i'm kind of scared to play it ever since one being/monster/multiple-headed demon thingy snuck up on me in a tight corner and started screeching and swiping.
Grin
I remember back in 2002. playing silent hill on the ps1. whenever the last person left the house, i'd turn off the machine instantly. was too petrified to play it alone.

Please tell id software et al to stop making creepy games!

all i'm waiting for is for Epic to release Unreal Tournament 2007. I just hope my laptop can render Unreal Engine 3 at at least 1024 x 768 and most of the effects still in place.

gamebots? mmm,  will have to check that up once i get to a seat that isnt facing the rest of the office! Cheesy

silent hill,  people seem to love that game. I never played it. recently tried silent hill 4 for a short time, and got bored (my fault, was real tired)

doom3- scary? heh, texas pete u never jam. You will know the meaning of fear when u play deathmatch quake 3 against lethal human players. Death lurks round every corner!

crytek- looks reeeeally cool but, yaaaaaaaaawn. Graphics just don't do it for me anymore. was playing tombraider legend last night. Graphics were so superior to the xbox360 version that i found myself feeling like an idiot for participating in  next gen spec-wars (this is a PC version of the game). yet,  the only thing i noticed was how hard it was to switch targets in battle (just read a faq on it and will try out the new technique when I get home, hope it works, this may ruin the game, )

ut2007- dude. ut2004 was so close to perfection that only GOD knows what they will do with that game!

Yo TP,  i anticipate really bad phone manners for today because my phone is at like 5% charge, i left my charger at home and its like 9 in the morning!!!!!

hey codec,

integrated chipsets are only a bad thing when u act  like an asshole like intel; and don't include expansion slots. However pci express is not a dedicated video expansion, so they wont do that this time around, meaning the igfx will actually be a good thing (more pcs capable of playing games AT ALL even at reduced specs.)

it will be good for LAN parties, because on a serious LAN we always turn off ALL the graphics anyway!!!!!

didn't dig the whole demons-shrieking thingy in doom3. Monsters popping out at u from different corners etc.
just downloaded the FEAR demo. man, the AI there is so tight. Gets a bit tired seeign guys jumping through windows sha.

i'm having to do a rethink. usually i remap my movement/strafe buttons to the directional arows on the KB, but it makes it harder to activate bullet time/crouch/jump moves in many FPS, so i'm going to try using WASD. at least i can then fight and hit the left Ctrl and Shift buttons easily. The way i was playing before, i was more of run and gun than stealth, butnow more games are coming out with badder Ai so your character doesnt seem so overpowered. I'v edied in FEAR and far Cry so many times,

My dream is to go online one day and test my skillz against those Counterstrike gamers. they're about the best FPS people in d world. We'll see,

PS: Any of y'all try America's Army? it's a free download, but since it's the ultra-realistic (3 shots and your dead/1 shot headshot) type of game im not willing to play it.

it's unreal vs crytek now. . . john carmack do something.
and yes, silent hill was creepy but i never got to finishing it. my damn memory card kept fcuking me up. always restarting from scratch. a good game nonetheless.

not sure what u mean but PCI Express is just like the AGP but even better thanks to SLI (and Quad-SLI) support. it's a PCI-express port that i use. you may not be a graphics fan but in the end stunning visuals still rule. with IGPs, PC games will always fall behind consoles. but with vista coming out soon, i guess everyone will have to buy a dedicated graphics card.

yeah, i've got the full FEAR game. haven't had much time playing it though but i've gone a bit far anyway. yeah the AI is really cool. i read somewhere about it and the technology behind the AI is so simple, it's unbeliveable. Ghost Recon has taken my heart now even though my PC is struggling with it.

texas pete.

use wasd. it is the true way. if you dare challenge the masters with arrow keys you will die. And get RSI+ carpal tunnel syndrome.

embrace the wasd. it died for your sins.

Also, do NOT play fear using the stealth style. YOU HAVE TO RUN AND GUN OR YE SHALL DIE. if u need fear, i have the full version of that, too.
(actually the above statement isnt entirely true,  u can still survive on stealth, but u will progress slowly and die like a million times per level. Boring!!!!! fear is a fast-action game.)

c0dec:

what i mean is that pci express is an interface for many types of expansion card, not just graphics. what this means is that unlike with intel igfx boards where they could afford to fashi the agp slot because they had already dashed u a fake igfx 'card', this time they cannot, so u will always have the option to upgrade. The good thing about faster igfx is that joe user pc's that would usually be 2d-only will be able to at least ;launch games, meaning more game-capable poc's for ya lan party!

PS3 Launch Costs Rising
In an attempt to bolster confidence in PS3, Sony has assured investors that the firm will recoup its investment in the console just as quickly as it managed with PS2. But it said pre-launch costs are rising.
Speaking after the firm's games division posted a loss of over $200 million, senior vice president Takao Yuhara assured investors that PS3 investment will be recovered within five years.

But, according to Reuters, he warned that the games division will face bigger losses as the launch of PS3 nears. Analysts were told that some PS3 microchip costs are rising.

Sony is also hoping investors will keep the faith in its strategy for using PS3 to introduce Blu-ray as a mass-market next generation DVD solution; if successful, the entire company would benefit exponentially.

@badman888
given the stuff they're cramming into the 3, would you expect them to sell it off at give-away prices? the underlying strategy of sony is lost on so many people. they are not planning on making another console in the next ten years and the ps3 is actually supposed to be more nextgen than the xbox and wii. what this means is that by the time the xbox360 and wii have run their full course  blueray would hav hit mass market appeal and the associated cost of manufacturing both the cell and blueray would hav drastically fallen  and by that time developers have a firmer grip on how to ounce all the power of the 3. theres a site that detailed sony's strategy and i will give the link when i search again.

I beg to differ. While e3 might be confusing and sometimes downright shite, its the only way small developers will ever get their games out in public view. heck, even crytek started their career there, when they convinced nvidia to let 'em show off their engine as a geforce tech demo. the rest is history.
Over the years, so many small development houses were able to enter the limelight thanks to exposure at e3. the gaming industry might gripe about the costs and stuff, but there's no better marketing tool than e3 out there at the moment. No where else will we get to see a roundup of great games. instead of trawling the net laboriously looking for good games, an e3 roundup at least shows u the good stuff, the pretty stuff and the bad stuff all a once.

BTW, started using WASD. sooo much easier to crouch, enter bullet time and fire all at the same time. YaY!!  Cool

yessir. because i delight in games that draw me in visually. u guys just aint bin fair because u blame sony for making a helluva workhorse when the reality is that it is content devs that are responsible for how good a game is. sony makes the console, others make the games so its those others we ought to hold accountable for crappy games. thats why i say its still too early to judge.

No wahala. I have friends that have a similar inclination as regards games- visuals first. And to be honest, visuals have come a long way.

Its just that I was raised on pure gameplay, having cut my teeth on games that were made during the times of ridiculously simple visuals. And perhaps it is just me, because I was interested in pen/paper gaming with books and dice  before I discovered computers.

If one values gameplay, one usually sees past the smiling mushrooms and simple graphics  to the treasure of gamplay that lies within nintendo's creations.

ok. welcome to the grafx spit-and-shine club. im guessing "my first atari in the arly 90s" was a typo.
anyway its the console makers'  responsibility to make a machine that offers near endless possibilities for more immersive realism (ie more power), and it's the software developers' cup of tea to make great games with cool storylines and gameplay. whether they choose to exploit the console's power or not is their choice.

Thats it! My first ride was NOT a ford model T but a 1st gen Ford Mustang! And the mercerdes SLR you are talking about is none other than  a kia Opirius (all the style, none of the substance)!!!!

I'm not claiming that Nintendo are the SLR either! Rather they are the TVR Sagaris! looks like shit but runs like a dream!

aaaaaaanyway, im not claiming that ps3 games are all gfx and no substance. I'm sure the best japanese game developers will produce amazing games for the system.

And indeed, Nintendo games don't have poor graphics either- they just look cute and nonviolent!
