Abn: American-born Nigerian>>> "i Aint No African!"

    I saw this thread and had to read it, and also give my take on this.Having interacted with a couple of Nigerians in the UK I feel the parents of children who deny their heritage are 100% to blame.
Without a doubt if you are born in America or Britain you are American or British. My 3 month old daughter is British.
This is really not the issue, I have found that a lot of Nigerians and Africans suffer from an inferiority complex which makes them bring up their children trying to keep from them all aspects of their culture. Deep down they feel that everything white or American or whatever is superior to their own cultural heritage.Couple this with the tendency to put down your own country as bush or not civilised.
Kids are very impressionable and some uneducated and inarticulate(speech) Africans give some people the impression that they are daft.
  I am getting angry writing this now because this is something that annoys me. I have decided that my children will go to secondary schools in Nigeria or only private schools in the UK. I see every day these lost and direction less black kids just going crazy all over the place and their parents will be smiling and happy because their" pickin na oyibo"
Its not the Passport you carry but how proud you feel about you heritage. I can dump my Nigerian passport any day but never the Efik man or Nigerian  in me.

Just to add come to ,come to Calabar at christmas and see American and British born Kids play Ekpe masquerade. Thats the pride their parents put in them

your friend probably couldn't understand cus he from texas, they don't understand that stuff just like some northerns may not understand the way them country people be speaking. where i live in MD, the accents are the divided. people from like balitmore and around that area speak like they up north and people around my area or in Dc speak like they in the south. its just the whole region thing that divides us.
