for starters the igeria navy is a federal establishment.for  graduates the first commision u get is a 2nd lieutenant.pay between 80k-100k starters .then if u pass your promo exams u get promoted to the next level every 2 or 3 years.u must not be a combatant.troops mainly consist of recruits, corporals, sergeants e.tcso no ffear for niger delta.even sef dokubo and alams dey for kirikiri. Grin
  depending on what u read u could get a desk job e.g medecine,nursing,accountancy e.t.c
u will have to go for a rigorous six month training at national defence academy.and u should know how to swim.ii think u must sign for a minimum of either 4yrs or 8yrs.i no dey sure.im going to get my form.perharp 1 day i go do coup eter ASO ROCK Grin

sub Lt. which is equivalent to Lt. in the Army and flying Officer in the Airforce is the starting rank for all officers that go through short service, and their pay is around 46k to 50k. Except for medical Doctors, nurses and other medical officers who earn almost 20 to 30k extra medical allowance approved by UN/WHO for military medical personnels. But mind you accomodation is free, no light and water bills to be paid at the end of the month or year. If you add up these the pay may even be better than what some big companies in nigeria pay their staff. And finally you earn respect from people. It is worth trying.

Fellow Nigerians!!! Do we really need application fee to serve our country? Well, the job-seeking graduates better ask for federal government's intention to recruit graduates into Navy at this time when the current naval employees are underpaid.

Zebudaya, in the military you are suppose to live in the barracks; that is where they provide accomodation for serving personnels, although in some few cases like in the Navy and Airforce they have quarters outside the barracks where personnels can live. It is not compulsory that you shld live in the barracks, you can decide to get a rented apartment outside the barracks, you will be paid aaccomodation allowance which will not be up to what u paid in renting your apartment, that is why most military officers prefer to live within the barracks; and most importantly the security you get in the barracks.
Loluuu, my father is a retired Airforce officer; retired just last year. i attended airforce primary school,  Most of my classmates and friends are serving officers in the Navy, Airforce and Army as Navy Lt. Flt. Lt and captains. I narrowly missed going into the academy (NDA). I did my NYSC in NAF pay & Acct Group in Ikeja, so i know much about their pay and allowances. And presently i work in a bank that military officers use for their salaries, so i see what they pay them every month. Although i could nt make it into the military as a trained soldier, i'm a born soldier!!

THAT SOME OF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE NAVY DOES
NOT MEAN THAT YOU CRITICIZE IT.
Some people have to serve the country, some peole like the idea of the military
DON'T DISCOURAGE THOSE WHO WANT TO JOIN.

Thank y'all 4 all the info u give out here, I really needed that. For those who say the navy is shit because they pay 40k, I want to ask them, do they have a better altenative. For me I don go pick the form finish! As I dey here 40k is better than nothing and honestly, the navy is not such a bad place to work, the experience and adventure and all other good shit. Problem now is, I don't know how to swim. Do they insist that? The 'militay experts' should advise me on that,

Swimming is not compulsory. You will spend most of your time doing military training in NDA kaduna. You will go to Onne in PH a month or 2 before passing out. I don't think swimming is compulsory because so many people joined without even knowing what swimming is and they are still in the NAVY.

If the ability to swim is not compulsory, then the Nigerian Navy is a complete joke. There are no two ways about it.  It is not only a sign of incompetence for a Naval officer to be a landlubber, the Nigerian Navy itself directly endangers the lives of all those sent out to sea without proper training. Naval personnel that cannot swim. What a ridiculous notion. Anyway, it’s Nigeria so why should anyone be surprised?
