'Remote Control' Controller for Nintendo Revolution Console
« on: September 19, 2005, 07:59 AM »

Nintendo's upcoming game console is called the Nintendo Revolution and it's controller is something that looks like a TV remote control unit.

Main Controller Features:
# 3D Pointing:  Sensors understand up, down, left, right, forward and backward.
# Tilt Sensitivity:  Controller can be rotated or rolled from side-to-side.
# Buttons Included:  Has a trigger on its backside, face buttons, and a D-Pad.
# Multifunctionality: Has an expansion port which can be used with different types of controller peripherals. Analog stick with two trigger buttons planned for left hand.
# Wireless Operation. Totally wire-free. Currently there are no details on the max distance, source or power, or otherwise.
# Built-in Rumble: Included as a standard in all the controllers.

Do you think the Nintendo Revolution, thanks to innovations like this controller, will overtake the Xbox as the gamind console of choice?  The idea behind this "remote control controller" is that it will be less intimidating to people who are new to gaming.

Do you like it?

I swear to god that looks like my modem and tv controller. The design sure isn't revolutionary but the 3d pointing sure is. I am intrigued but apprehensive about the so called revolution. I have a feeling that fighting games will suffer horribly.

Game developers seem to be excited about the possibilities of this new controller.  They feel that it'll help them in their quest to bring gaming to the masses.

it looks stupid in my oppinion, the majority of gaming purchases are made by 20 something year olds, who would want something looking like this in their living room?

the Nrev game pads may bring some complications later........
but at the same time it's good to bring out something new altogether..

one the x360i don't think it would be able to compete with it... well who knows .

nowadays it is hard predicting

i admire nintendo's innovative spirit but this time they've gone to far. i think it's going to work against them. i can't imagine playing games with one hand. wtf?

anyway there's a belief within the industry that the next generation is between PS3 and XBOX360.

this controller is the only thing about the next generation that is even remotely interesting.

xbox360 and ps3 are just the same console, but with more restrictions (read: no more pira for all u ikeja and alaba boyz Grin ) and better graphics (which are not as much better as ps2/xbox were vs N64/ps1)

but with this 'pointer' console, nintendo may have hit the jackpot.

someone said fighting games will suffer. I disagree. Tekken and streetfughter may suffer because they require digital control AND 4-6 buttons, but if you want to see what is possible with an analogue controller and a few buttons, play NARUTO: gekito ninja taisen on the gamecube. It may sound obscure, but believe me, you won't believe how unbelievably action packed this game can be! It's gameplay truly is the future for fighting games.

FPS will benefit greatly. All you xbox players gushing over halo should understand that, since u are using an analogue pad to play the game, you are still playing a kiddies FPS. Real men have always used the mouse+keyboard on the PC, and this pointer just may be the weapon console gamers need to finally catch up!

then there are the other uses demonstrated for the console, like the sword+ shield combination, and various gesture-based games. Also, mouse-based games on the PC (such as starcraft, commandos, etc) will be easily converted and even easier to play!

Nintendo has always had the right idea as per controllers..... sony will just copy them once they release their console, just as they copied them with the ps1 and ps2 controllers, and with the wireless gamecube controller.  Just wait!
