Help! Need Advice On What IT Field To Specialise In.
« on: October 20, 2008, 11:09 PM »

Hi "Naira Landers", Really confused on what IT field to specialize in, 'cause am SO Interested in to IT world, if there were a single course consisting of all the IT fields, I'd go for that, since I'm limited to studying a single field at a time, would rather go for a distinctively lucrative IT course that's deeply involved with "Tele communications technology" for a start, this is the reason I need advise from really IT Experienced Naira Landers, then,  I’m considering going to APTECH, NIIT or KAROK, please advice, 'cause I've made few research on the 3, different people with different critics, their experience and opinions is really getting me all mixed up. Thanks.

Why do people come online to ask complete strangers of what field they should specialize in? Do you not understand that you and only you can make that decision for yourself? All they can do is tell you exactly what you can easily obtain by simply doing research on your own, something you still have to do regardless of what they feed you in here.  Why not go out there and find out what field that fits your person best by trying your hand and mind on the areas you can?? If you are unable to figure it out after that, then maybe IT is not it for you.

yeah??? So let's see,  having someone else advice you on how to work out your own career choice is not a MISTAKE?? Take time to count the number of similar threads to yours on here.

Dear Kobojunkie

Why do you always behave like you know everything.  The guy only asked some advice in regards to what are the core areas of IT. Most important an area where one can build a career on.

If you cant answer the question.  Please shut up.

No hard feelings

On this Issue I want to say both parties should look at it from this angle

1, kobojunkie, you have a good case but u presented it in a bad way. The guys asked on what IT field to specialize in. what was expected of you was to ask what he like doing with system, if he likes drawing or knows how to draw, he should specialize on GRAPHIC, if he like solving problem he should go into programming (solution developer). if he like telecoms then he should do some stuff on wireless network (CCNA).

you just tell him this, he will still make choice for himself you cant make it for him.

My father will always say that there are two type of people who comes for advice,
-the person looking for a way out
-the person who has already made up his mind but just wantin some to make it look that is on the right way.

that is very BAD  of you

@blacksta
you should just have given your advice rather that BLAST someone who has given one.

All for the best

@Poster, I Meant every single word as I have it posted. GO OUT THERE AND APPLY YOURSELF!!! How many of these who claim to be programmers do you think are successful? How can you place the success of your own career on the shoulders of people who may themselves have failed to achieve in the field they have chosen?? I for one have seen enough of these CHOOSE MY LIFE FOR ME THREADS. . . .

@ blacksta
the advice kobojunkie gave was that the guy should choose for himself rather than someone doing so.

if you must know

In my opinion the IT fields are quite distinct, and since you said you have researched it on your own, you should be able to decide which of them you may want to specialize in and where your strengths lie. For example is it application development/programming, Networking, Database admin/development, etc. Once you have decided at a higher level which one suits you, then you can narrow it down or at least ask here, which programming language or development environment to specialize in. However, at a higher level, you and ONLY you can make that decision, based on the research you have already done.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone, EXCEPT "Kobojunkie",and please forget pasting under this topic OK! your arrogance clouds your good intentions, done few more research, narrowed my choices down to areas in DATABASE/WIRELESS NETWORKING, ORACLE 10G or CISCO, guys, which do you think pays out more in recent time NIGERIA.I have a degree in "statistics" to go along with which ever one I choose.

Acually I am happy that you've made a Good choice, as a Statistic graduate DBMS/Networking is'nt bad but my advice is that in IT you must love what you are going first and develope yourself, then the pay will come.

QUESTIONS FOR WELL VAST CISCO PROFESSIONALS?
« #14 on: November 26, 2008, 07:02 PM »

Hello Fellas, This question is meant for "well EXPERIENCED and VAST CISCO certified professionals" to answer.

(1)What differentiates the under listed networking professional certifications from one another? (2) And in what exact networking field/area will someone who owns each of these certifications be most RELEVEVANT/SPECIALIZE IN?

1. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
2. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
3. Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)
4. Certified wireless Network Professional (CWNP)
5. Microsoft Certified System Engineer: Security (MCSE: Security)
6. Microsoft Certified System professional (MCSA)
7. Cisco Certified Internetworking Engineer (CCIE)
8. CISA
9 Networking and Security (KNSP): have reasons to belief KNSP entails: (A+,N+,MCP,MCSA,CCNA,CCNP,CIW/security), IS THIS TRUE?

Incase there are other relevant "NETWORKING certifications" missing from my list, will appreciate its inclusion and explanations of what it entails/relevance, I’m looking to go into networking Fulltime, this is the reason I want to have in-depth understanding of each certifications relevance.

Thats a funny question but truth is you have to ask yourself are you genuinely interested in IT? or else you would be jumping from hardware to software from Networking to Programming e.t.c

Problem is many people will still follow their mind at the end of the day - so me i kinda believe that this guy is joking - as old as he is - he still doesn't know what he wants to do?? No puns intended - but i dont believe that for starters.

If the question had been "Where Can I Get More Money and Spend Less Time Working" or "Which is better: programming or website design" or "Thieving online" - i might just have a reasonable answer.

Hi,

The IT world is very big with options of variious courses & products. Why dont you consider a career in SAP, maybe you can be a ABAP programer, this is a very niche area with a large deamd for the same, In nigeria companies like BAT, Total, Exxon etc are currently using SAP
