Volunteer For Ja Nigeria This Summer
« on: July 26, 2006, 04:26 PM »

Dear Volunteer,

Top of the day to you.

Our Children are on holiday, a lot of activities would be going on at this period they are on break. We should not allow just anything and everything get into their developing mind, let us start building their mind and nurture them to really become the leaders of tomorrow.

Junior Achievement of Nigeria has concluded plans to engage these children and impact their lives during this holiday. There are two programs we are bringing on for the primary and secondary school students during this holiday.

For the Secondary school program:

JA Economics for Success.

JA Economics for Success explores personal finance and students¡¦ education and career options based on their skills, interests and values. It is a series of six activities recommended for students in JSS3 and SSS1. The topics discussed in JA Economics for Success: ƒæ     Choices and self ¡V knowledge ƒæ     Decision-making ƒæ     Education and career options ƒæ     Budgeting ƒæ     Credit ƒæ     Financial risk. Following participation in the program, students will be able to: ƒæ     Continue to explore their skills, interests, and values, and the world of work to make informed education, career and life decisions. ƒæ     Apply their knowledge of personal finance to comprehend needs and wants resulting in strong financial management regardless of income.

For Primary School Students:

The Elementary School Program:

The Elementary School Program shows elementary school students the relevance of education to the workplace through a sequential business and economics curriculum.  Its sequential approach helps the students understand their economic world and prepares them for academic learning and lifelong achievement.  With a variety of hands-on activities delivered by a volunteer role model, students will better understand the relationship between what they learn in school and their successful participation in our economy. The programs are sequentially delivered, starting with ¡§Ourselves¡¨ in Primary One up until ¡§Our World¡¨ in Primary Six.

Ourselves (Primary One) ¡V This Program is designed to develop personal economic concepts through storybook characters presented by the volunteer in read-aloud and hands-on activities

Our Families (Primary Two) - This Program is designed to provide practical information about family members and their interdependence

Our Community (Primary Three) ¡V This Program is designed to provide practical information about businesses and the many occupations found in those businesses in a typical city

Our City (Primary Four) - This Program is designed to provide practical information about businesses and the many occupations and areas found in a typical city

Our Nation (Primary Five) - This Program is designed to provide practical information about people, businesses and services in a typical community

Our World - This Program is designed to introduce students to concepts surrounding international trade ¡V world resources, economic systems, monetary exchange and trade
