Imagine a large empty bin.  Say that each minute people would come and put in one golf ball a piece.  The first minute (starting at 12 noon), 1 person came and put in a ball.  The second minute, 2 people put in one ball a piece.  A minute later, 4 people put in 1 ball a piece.  This pattern continued until the bin was exactly full at 6pm.  At what time was the bin half empty?

Men = 6
Women = 5

2/3 of 6 = 4
3/5 of 5 = 3

Total = 4 men + 4 partners + 2 single men + 3 women + 3 partners + 2 single women = 18 < 20 = 1 score

Total # of singles = 2 + 2 = 4

Thanks for trying. No mind the rest wey no bother  Grin

The number of men with partners must match the number of women with partners. You inverse the normal way of calculating fractions by finding the LCD of the numerator! In this case, 6. 2/3 + 3/5 becomes 6/9 + 6/10 = 12/19

7 is the number of singles. 12, 6men and 6 women, is number that came with partners
