@ladidy,

You are most likely  suffering from chronic periodontitis as 'holes' will not cause bleeding as you mentioned.Now I don't know if you suffer any pain and of what severity.You may not need to undergo extractions as there are various treatment modalities nowadays but may have to be delayed till the pregnancy is more than 3 months.A simple deep curretage may help out eventually.For now you can rinse with a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water 8 times daily.For the holes(dental caries) you may benefit from fillings or root canal trearment.Extractions should be the last resort.let me know how you feel after a week.

hello doc, some months back, I went to my dentist and complained about a hole in my tooth. The hole has been there for over two years but I guess since  I only had to stop using it to stop the pain I didn't bother about doing anything about it, as I was only using one side to eat. The dentist filled it for me and I though it was ok, only for me to use it and the pain became unbearable for days. I went back to see the dentist and was given Flagyll and antibiotics. When the pain refused to go, I went back again, that was when I had an X-ray done. The dentist told me that the gum was slightly infected and told me to finish my drugs. Sadly, the pain comes back anytime I use the affected side. For now I have stopped using that side to eat.
My problem now is that the affected gum started swelling like three weeks back, and I don't know what to do about it. I got Colgate Total Protection toothpaste and started brushing my teeth at least thrice daily, though its has helped in reducing the swelling, I still have the pain once in a while, Pls what can I do about it?

Hi Doc,

I recently extracted a tooth after long sleepless nights and serious pains. I resulted to using the other side in eating, but now i am experiencing the same type of pains on this side and its real terrible. I experience serious pain when water touches the place.

Does this required another extraction? Please advice me, cause i had a real bad experience the last time i extracted a tooth.

@modupsie,
The green band on your tooth shows that when you were young you suffered a febrile condition e.g measles, chicken pox so the colour is intrinsic to your tooth it can not be cleaned ordinarily by scaling and polishing, you may need to undergo tooth bleaching.Please  see a Dentist for proper advice.Any problem with this?Let me know.

@HC,
By avoiding to use the extraction site for mastication has put more pressure on the unaffected site,this may be a cause for tooth sensitivity ,dental caries or most commonly periodontal disease(gum disease),this may worsen an already developing disease.Ideally you should start eating with the side 3 days after the extraction.Now that it is exarcerbated by cold drinks means there either dentine exposure or pulpal exposure.Please see a qualified Dentist,you need a periapical X-ray of the affected area before a good treatment can be done .

@adefranca,
A hole of about 2years must have involved the tooth pulp,ordinarily filling the tooth will not help.I am surprised that your Dentist did not take the X-ray before starting treatment this is very wrong.From what I can deduce now you have already developed an abscess.Antibiotics will be of no help now,you will need to have a root canal treatment for the tooth combined with deep curretage around the affected tooth.Please start eating with both sides of the tooth SO THAT THE UNAFFECTED SIDE DO NOT GIVE YOU PROBLEM.Start on a spoonful of salt mixed with a cupful of warm water  6 times daily until you see a competent Dentist.

Hi Doc,

My gums are always bleeding.  Just a little touch or if I just want to wash my face, once my hand goes over the mouth area, it starts bleeding.  It even occasionally bleeds on it's own.

What do u suggest I do please,

Thx.

lafredo,

Brown discoloration of your tooth is usually as a result of trauma when you were young if it is a single tooth, if many it may have resulted from intake of tetracycline when you were still in the womb or after you were born or febrile illnesses while young.You will benefit from tooth bleaching,this may be a little expensive as you will be charged per tooth.there are other forms of treatments available. See a competent dentist around you.

Gingival bleeding as you described it needs an urgent attention as it may be an early sign of a serious systemic disease.Please visit the nearest specialist hospital.

solowealth,

The pain from premolar is as a result of periodontal problem(gum disease) I am sure it bleeds sometimes while you brush.Please stop the use of toothpicks and use dental floss instead.Use a mixture of a tablespoon of salt in a cupful of warm water 8 tmes a day for a week.Let me know how you feel in a week.

Hello Doc,

I went to a dentist about 8 years ago when I could not bear the pain in my tooth, the dentist was unavailable then so the Doctor on duty gave me some pain relieving drugs pending on when the dentist will return. The pain increased inspite the drugs. Out of desparation, I did something nasty; I tried to pull the tooth off and it broke into halves in the process, that was when i discovered that there was a hole in the tooth. The pain eventually stoped when someone adviced me to mix procain powder with gin and hold it in my mouth from some munites. I eventually went for extraction last week because that took bleeds sometimes when I brush it. Few days ago, I discovered that a tiny piece of the extracted tooth still remains.

I understood after the extraction that the tooth was in 3 pieces prior to the extraction, two were eventually removed while 1 still remains. The bleeding has stopped however. I am scared of going back for extraction due to the painful experience and also for the fact that the remaining piece is not so visible on the surface. Kindly advice on what I must do to avoid further dental issues and the dangers (if any) of failure to extract the affected tooth.

Apologies for the long story - Just trying to be detailed.

Thanks,

Kelly.

@kelly,
        The remaining piece may not cause any problem if it is very small but you said you can still see a bit of it which shows it still big.You need an X-ray of it to ascertain the position,then your dentist will be able to extract it easily.The best way to aviod dental problems is to keep good oral hygiene avoid sugary food in take ,have a dental check-up at least twice a year.

@flammen,
Sorry for the accident, the lost teeth can be replaced, you have the choice depending on the fund,the cheapest is the denture this is made of plastic but is the most disadvantageous as it can loosen other teeth in the mouth.the next is the bridge this is fixed and you cannot remove it except by the the dentist.The best is the implant but very expensive.the broken ones may be built up with composite if pulp has been affected it may require a root canal therapy before any treatment .

Thanks Bubbloma,
tink i will settle for the bridge since the implant comes very expensive.
can u recommend a dentist in lagos where i can get it fixed successfully?
